This provision is good
Overall, the quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides a range of interesting learning opportunities. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children are motivated to learn and show strong independence and growing self-care skills. They enjoy healthy meals and take part in plenty of activities that promote their physical health and well-being. Care practices are implemented well in consultation with parents. Children show that they feel happy and safe in the childminder's home. The childminder is a good role model who constantly praises children's achievements, which helps to build their self- esteem. The childminder reflects on the provision, and acts on the views of parents and children, to make changes which have a positive impact on the outcomes for children. Parents are kept well informed about their children's learning and development. They are very happy with the service provided by the childminder.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder does not provide opportunities for children to further develop their understanding of the world around them. The childminder has not yet established strong partnerships with the local nursery and school to ensure continuity of learning for the children in her care.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and had discussions at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of relevant documentation, such as policies and procedures, evidence of the suitability of all adults in the household, the childminder's self-evaluation and children's assessment records. The inspector looked at parental feedback documents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe and what to do if she has any concerns about their welfare. She shares her policies and procedures with parents on induction so they are aware of her responsibilities in protecting children. The childminder regularly seeks the views of children and parents. She uses this information to provide consistency in children's care and learning and set targets for improvement. The childminder reflects well on her practice and identifies her strengths and areas that require further development. She attends training and undertakes research to help keep her knowledge and skills up to date. This has a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning. The childminder makes detailed assessments and monitors children's learning and development. She knows how and when to seek assistance from other professionals to support children's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. Children enjoy taking part in outings and recalling memorable experiences. The childminder provides a good mix of planned activities and those that children choose themselves. Children respond eagerly to the childminder as she interacts and communicates with them, and they regularly invite her into their play. She questions children well and helps to extend most aspects of their learning. The childminder promotes children's early mathematics well. For example, she introduces mathematical language as they count the items in a storybook, and discuss the colours and shapes. Children develop strong thinking and problem-solving skills as they experiment and explore. The childminder knows when to provide support and guidance to children and when to encourage them to keep on trying and have a go. All children are developing good skills and attitudes to promote further learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has created a welcoming environment with a variety of resources and activities on offer. She works closely with parents to ensure that children are offered continuity in their care practice and routines. She establishes close bonds and attachments with the children, helping them to settle quickly. Children are well behaved. The childminder offers clear expectations and gentle reminders to help encourage their understanding further. Children play cooperatively and show kindness to each other. They also attend a range of groups in the local area. This provides them with opportunities to socialise with other adults and children, as well as practise their physical skills on large apparatus.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are confident, motivated and are making good progress in their learning and development. The secure relationships with the childminder, a wide range of activities and opportunities, and daily routines to help promote independence skills all make a positive difference to children's learning. They are becoming assertive and successful individuals who acquire the key skills they need for their future learning, including the move to school.
