and other settings that children attend are exceedingly strong. Parents receive regular, highly detailed assessments of their children's progress, helping them to support their children's learning at home. Children regularly borrow toys and resources, and enjoy bringing in their own to share with friends.  The childminder seeks feedback from all those who use her setting. Children are routinely supported to express their views, ideas and wishes. The childminder uses the information she gains to help her enhance all aspects of the service she provides. She has created an inspiring environment that is extremely safe, stimulating and suitable for the children in her care.  With the childminder as their guide, children develop their ability to play harmoniously together. They demonstrate exemplary behaviour as they follow her example of sharing and kindness.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views and written testimonials.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and the qualifications of the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector viewed a selection of documentation, including policies and procedures and records of children's learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Parents are welcome to stay and play with their children at the childminder's home as often as they wish. This fosters a highly collaborative approach between parents and the childminder. The childminder shares her robust policies, which she regularly reviews, with parents. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident about what to do if she has a concern about the safety and well-being of children in her care. She proactively seeks out new information and develops her skills to ensure that she is always improving the quality of her already excellent teaching. She has identified further training to continually enhance how she meets children's individual needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

At every opportunity, the childminder uses her outstanding knowledge and understanding of how children learn to support their progress. She sets them high levels of challenge as they play, which they readily and confidently accept. The childminder expertly helps young children to develop their speech. She gets down to their level and speaks to them face-to- face. If children miss part of a word when they speak, the childminder clearly repeats the word to them, emphasising the sound that they missed. The array of activities that children can participate in each day is exceptional. For example, when they develop an interest in transport of all kinds, the childminder ensures that she provides art and craft activities, small-world toys, stories and outings that follow the same theme. The childminder uses several high-quality outings to give children new and exciting experiences that develop their understanding of the world. These carefully selected

outings are extremely well linked to the topics and themes that children are engrossed in at the childminder's home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder ensures that all activities she plans take account of the ways each child likes to engage, their individual interests and next steps in learning. Children develop an eagerness to join in and are making very rapid progress. The childminder actively supports children to meet their own personal care needs. When children have bare feet after feeling sand on their toes, the childminder encourages them to feel the floor and think about its temperature. They then decide whether they need to put their slippers back on. Children develop their sense of responsibility as they help to get ready for a healthy snack. They delve into a low cupboard to choose a cup and plate, they then capably go to another room and bring back small chairs to the table.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

The outstanding teaching that the childminder provides means that most children are making excellent progress in their learning from their starting points. Children are highly motivated to learn, they ask questions freely and chat enthusiastically as they play. They develop excellent coordination as they practise skills, such as using scissors to cut around shapes. Early mathematics and literacy skills are exceptionally well promoted.
