This provision is outstanding
The quality of teaching is outstanding. The childminder provides an extensive range of stimulating activities that motivate, excite and interest children. The childminder assesses children's achievements and learning precisely. She knows exactly where children are in their development and how to help them achieve the best they can. All children make excellent progress. Children develop excellent communication and language skills. They discuss their thoughts, feelings and ideas, and develop key skills for their future learning. Children form excellent relationships with her and behave extremely well. They are extremely happy, confident and settle quickly. Partnerships with parents are exemplary. Parents are delighted with the progress their children make and are actively involved in their learning. The childminder takes children on an extremely wide range of trips within the local community. Children have immense fun developing their physical skills on the beach

and at the park. They learn about dinosaurs at local museums and practise their climbing skills wearing harnesses at the dockyard. The childminder's continual drive for improvement, alongside her professional development, enables her to improve her knowledge and provide high-quality care.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

continue to strengthen the opportunities for children to build on their already very strong mathematical skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities inside the home and outside in the garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector and childminder discussed teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to some parents and took account of parents' views through the written documentation they had provided. The inspector looked at a selection of the childminder's documentation, including suitability checks and records of children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is extremely committed to providing high-quality care and learning for children. She has extremely high expectations for them and works in close partnerships with other providers to ensure excellent continuity in children's care and education. The childminder continually evaluates her practice to help her improve. For example, after recognising that some children learn better outdoors, she successfully increased opportunities for them to develop their early literacy skills in her garden. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding, including the procedures to follow in the event of any child protection concerns.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder develops children's love of reading exceptionally well. She uses exciting practical activities to bring stories to life. For example, the childminder provides endless opportunities for children to engage and take part in stories. She provides resources, such as soft caterpillar toys and fresh fruits. Children eagerly take part, acting out the story, smelling and tasting the range of fruits and joining in with the caterpillar as he eats his way through the book. Children delight in watching the story unfold and anticipating when the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly. However, occasionally, the childminder does not make the most of these learning opportunities to extend children's mathematical knowledge further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children have exciting opportunities to develop their understanding of the world. For example, they develop a great sense of wonder in nature as they learn about mini beasts during their garden play. Children take part in activities that develop their understanding of science and why things happen. For example, they spend time trying to release toy insects frozen in ice. Children learn to share, take turns and respect each other. They develop an excellent understanding of the differences between themselves and others. Children learn about other cultures and languages, and celebrate a wide range of festivals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make excellent progress in their learning and development. They are extremely confident, independent and eager to learn. Children develop excellent early reading skills and learn to recognise the sounds letters make. They have excellent communication and language skills. The childminder engages them in conversations and makes excellent use of planned and spontaneous activities to support and extend children's vocabulary. Children are exceptionally well prepared for their eventual move to school.
