Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children.  The inspector viewed a range of documents, including children's records, regulatory documentation and the childminder's self-evaluation.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took into account the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has an excellent commitment to professional development and uses training successfully to improve her practice. For example, new ideas helped her to involve parents much more with supporting learning at home. Since the last inspection, the childminder gathers more information about children's development when they first attend to help them flourish from the start. The childminder has very strong links with other professionals involved in children's care to help her provide targeted support to close any gaps in their learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes rigorous risk assessments to monitor safety. She has an excellent understanding of child protection procedures to protect children from harm.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder very skilfully encourages children to make their own choices about their play and teaches them their opinion is valued. She makes the most of all opportunities to capture children's enthusiasm and support them to reach their potential. This includes skilfully using challenging questions to encourage children to think for themselves and fully extend their creativity, language and mathematical development. For example, when building pretend walls, children remembered that builders use cement to make bricks stick and talked about what they could use. They learnt new words and shapes, such as rectangle and spiral, and the difference between long and tall. The childminder enhances children's knowledge and understanding of the world exceptionally well with innovative practical activities and exciting outings. She uses spontaneous opportunities and highly effective teaching to maximise learning easily as they play. For example, children develop

early reading and mathematics skills as they discuss the meaning of symbols on labels, and compare the patterns and size of their clothes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children have very positive relationships with the childminder. They learn to be respectful of others and play cooperatively. The childminder consistently praises children's efforts and achievements, and boosts their self-esteem very well. Their behaviour is exemplary. The childminder promotes children's physical well-being extremely well through excellent activities and routines that teach children about staying healthy and safe. Children are very independent. They confidently make choices and manage tasks for themselves, such as learning to use knives safely. Very occasionally, the childminder misses some opportunities to extend their independence even further.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make excellent progress. They are extremely confident, highly motivated and eager to learn. They are very good communicators. They develop the skills they need to excel in the next stage of learning and moving on to school.
