Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder about children's activities and their progress. The inspector and the childminder conducted a joint observation. The inspector spoke with the childminder about her self-evaluation. The inspector read letters of reference from parents to take account of their views.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has clear procedures to follow should she have any concerns about children's welfare. She has a strong commitment to developing her skills and knowledge. For example, from her recent training, she has improved her understanding of how to fully involve parents when completing progress checks for children aged two years. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively to identify any areas of learning where they may need further support. She carefully considers how to adapt her learning experiences and teaching to meet children's needs. The childminder works effectively with parents to promote a shared approach to children's learning. For example, she frequently shares information about children's achievements and encourages parents to keep her informed about learning experiences at home.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a balance of planned activities and children's freely chosen play. She takes account of children's interests and stages of development to plan activities that build on what they already know and can do. The childminder provides good support and knows when to join in children's play to extend their learning further. She supports children's language skills effectively. For example, she introduces new words and clearly repeats these to develop children's vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is good. The childminder consistently and clearly reminds children of what she expects of them. She praises their achievements and raises their self-esteem well. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides a range of healthy meals, snacks and drinks. Children enjoy regular fresh air and exercise to promote their good health. The childminder recognises the importance of supporting children's independence skills well. For example, children help tidy up their toys and pour their own drinks. Children learn about people's similarities and differences; for example, they go on regular outings in the community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and gain the skills they need for their future learning, including starting school. They develop their literacy skills effectively. For example, children take an active part in storytelling and discuss the story characters with confidence. They listen and follow instructions well.
