p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not maintain suitable contents for children in her first-aid box, as required. In addition, she does not consistently promote good hygiene routines to reduce the risk of cross-infection and teach children how to keep themselves healthy. These breaches also relate to the Childcare Register requirements. The childminder does not use her assessments of children to plan activities that extend and challenge their learning and development across all areas. Although children make some positive progress, she does not ensure that they make the best progress in preparation for moving to school. The childminder does not use all opportunities to encourage children to develop age- appropriate responsibility and independence within their daily routines and experiences. The childminder does not use self-evaluation well enough to identify all strengths and weaknesses that drive improvement and promote better outcomes for children.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder builds strong relationships with children. Children are comfortable in the childminder's care and settle quickly when they first start. The childminder has strong relationships with parents, to help meet children's needs. Parents say that they are happy with the service she provides and that children enjoy spending time with her.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2
Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
provide more opportunities for children to try doing some everyday things for themselves, to help them develop age-appropriate independence strengthen the use of self-evaluation to identify strengths and weaknesses, meet requirements and to ensure continuous improvements promote better outcomes for children.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to parents and read their written comments to gain their views. The inspector toured the areas of the premises children use. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder and observed her interactions with children. The inspector looked at written policies and other relevant documents. The inspector spoke to the childminder during the inspection to determine her knowledge of the requirements.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Self-evaluation and risk assessments are not robust enough to identify all weaknesses. The childminder keeps up to date with her paediatric first-aid training and knows how to administer basic first-aid. However, she does not ensure that her first-aid box is suitable for use and, as a result, the contents have expired. The effect on children is slight because the childminder plans to address this oversight quickly. The childminder seeks the views of others to share ideas to improve her teaching. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to identify concerns about children's welfare and knows how to report her concerns to the relevant authorities. She provides some opportunities for children to learn about safety. Children enjoy practising emergency evacuation procedures and learn how to be safe around people they do not know.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder observes children as they play and uses the information she gains to track the progress they make. However, she does not use the assessments of children's learning and development effectively to plan for further progress and achievements. She does not monitor children's learning well, to improve her practice and ensure that children make better progress. The childminder provides some opportunities for children to learn about diversity. For example, children enjoy learning about other cultures and tasting different types of foods to develop a better understanding about other people within their wider world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The weaknesses around first-aid contents and hygiene routines mean that the childminder does not fully promote children's welfare successfully. She does not consistently encourage children to carry out age-appropriate tasks for themselves, or to look after the toys and the environment, to fully prepare them for going to school. The childminder does not help children to learn to follow routines that keep them healthy. She praises children to help them to recognise their achievements and expects them to behave positively. Younger children go with the childminder when she collects older children from school. This helps them to become familiar with new environments and changes to their routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children do not make the best possible progress in relation to their initial starting points. However, they do develop some skills in preparation for going to school and for future learning. Children enjoy socialising with others. They develop some physical skills and enjoy digging in sand, using ride-on toys and stacking blocks. Children are confident to seek help and enjoy their time with the childminder.
