This provision is good
The childminder is committed to her role. She has made improvements to her provision since her last inspection. This demonstrates a clear drive to continually improve and raise the quality of care and learning for children. The childminder completes observations and assessments to give her a clear understanding of the progress that children are making. She uses this information to plan interesting experiences that help children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has established good partnerships with parents and other settings where children attend and they regularly share information. This helps to promote consistency in children's care and learning. The childminder places a high priority on encouraging children's positive behaviour. She is a good role model and reinforces good manners. Additionally, she teaches children to be kind and respectful towards one another. This helps inspire good values in children

and supports their social skills further.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to respond and develop their thinking skills when replying to questions. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to support children's understanding of the benefits of a healthy diet.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated a learning activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a selection of policies and children's assessment records, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation methods. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and viewed the training certificates of the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder intuitively reflects on her practice and uses the feedback from parents to help her shape her provision. She has completed relevant training to refresh and extend her skills and is committed to continuing her professional development. The childminder has addressed the actions and recommendations raised at her last inspection. For example, she has improved the systems to observe and assess children's progress to identify their next steps in learning. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident in her responsibilities to promote children's welfare. She has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, should she have any concerns about a child. Children's progress is closely monitored. This helps the childminder to identify areas where they may be less secure in their development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Teaching is strong. The qualified childminder provides a good balance of child-initiated play and adult-led learning. She provides activities that reflect children's interests, such as board games and imaginary play. The childminder skilfully models language to extend children's vocabulary, which helps to develop their skills for learning. She fully supports children who speak English as an additional language to develop a suitable standard of spoken English. The childminder skilfully introduces children's mathematical development through everyday routines and play. Amongst other things, young children count how many different types of food they have for their pretend picnic. The childminder also promotes children's use of mathematical vocabulary during their construction play, as they discuss shapes and colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and homely environment for children. All children benefit from the childminder's consistent praise and encouragement as they play. This helps to promote their self-esteem and supports them to be emotionally well prepared for the next stage in their learning. The childminder works closely with parents to support children in the settling-in process. This helps her to ensure she meets the needs of children from the start. The childminder is vigilant as children play and gently reminds them how to move around the setting safely. She promotes children's physical well-being through planned activities and daily opportunities to be physical, such as going for walks to the local park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and eager to engage in the stimulating experiences that the childminder provides. They are provided with opportunities to develop their independence and confidence during daily activities. The childminder effectively follows and extends children's individual interests to support their future learning. For example, they begin to learn to read and write their own name. This contributes towards ensuring that all children make good progress and are ready for their next stages in learning, including school.
