This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn and develop. She regularly observes children to identify the next stage in their learning and their individual interests. This helps her to plan activities that children enjoy, supporting them to make good progress. The childminder offers consistent and high levels of praise and encouragement to children. This helps to develop their confidence and self-esteem, motivating them to participate in activities. This effectively supports their all-round development and emotional well-being. The childminder and parents regularly share a wealth of information about children's development, both at home and at the childminder's setting. The childminder supports parents with ideas about how to enrich their children's learning experience at home. Parents are complimentary about the childminder and the care and teaching that she provides. The childminder is making links with other settings that children attend, in order to

share information on their learning and development. This supports continuity and helps children to continue to make good progress towards the early learning goals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to think about how to respond to questions.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at a selection of documentation, including children's information, certificates, policies and procedures, and evidence of the suitability checks for all adults living in the household. The inspector toured the areas of the premises where childcare is provided. The inspector observed children involved in a planned activity and discussed the outcomes of the activity with the childminder. The inspector reviewed written comments from parents and took account of their views of the service provided by the childminder.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder assesses risks in the environment, as well as during regular outings and on the walk to school. The childminder supports children to recognise dangers for themselves. She reminds them of toys that they will need supervision with, such as a large rocking horse. She teaches them about road safety as part of their daily routine. This helps children to understand about potential dangers and how to keep themselves safe. The childminder works well with parents. She regularly keeps them informed of their child's development, as well as their next steps in learning. They work together to offer consistency in developing skills, which helps to support children to make good progress. The childminder uses self-evaluation to identify strengths and areas for development in her setting. She involves parents in her evaluations. Through discussion and questionnaires, she gains their views on different
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children in her care well. She has a good knowledge of the characteristics of each child and their individual interests. Regular monitoring of their achievements helps her to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder plans activities to support children to make good progress. Children's physical development is well supported, for example, through a daily dance and stretch session. Children enjoy dancing and moving their bodies in a variety of different ways, as well as practising different skills. The childminder encourages children to try to solve problems for themselves before she offers support. This helps them to develop skills which will support their future learning. The childminder promotes young children's communication and language skills well. For example, she repeats what children have said to her, in order to help them hear the correct pronunciation of words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses effective settling-in procedures. She gathers a range of information from parents to enable her to help children settle and feel secure when they first start. Children's needs are carefully considered throughout the day, with adjustments made to routines if necessary. Children have opportunities to be active and engage in physical play, both in the garden and while on outings in the local environment. They go on walks along the canal to feed the ducks and enjoy going to soft-play centres. The childminder has realistic expectations of children's behaviour. She gives clear explanations to support their understanding. She supports children to play alongside each other and develop skills, such as sharing with each other. The childminder promotes children's independence through everyday routines and supporting them to make choices about their play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have formed secure emotional attachments with the childminder. They are happy and make good progress in their learning, gaining the key skills needed for their next stage in learning, including school.
