Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home that are used for the care of children. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities and assessed the impact they have on the children. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all adults living in the premises and evidence of the childminder's training. The inspector looked at a sample of policies, procedures and children's records and reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to at the time of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is committed to providing the best possible care and learning opportunities for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder regularly checks children's progress and is able to identify and plan for any gaps in their learning. Good links with other providers and local schools promote continuity in children's care and learning. Parents spoken to at the time of the inspection are happy with the service they receive and the progress their children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and this is reflected in her good quality teaching. Effective planning, observation and assessment ensure children's individual learning priorities are pursued. The childminder's interaction with the children is very good and she promotes their communication skills well. Younger children's emerging language and confidence is evident as they use their imagination in role play. They pretend to make tea, go on outings and feed their 'babies'. Children learn about number, counting, shape, size and colours during play. They are encouraged to count while building a tower and learn how to solve problems. Younger children concentrate well as they work out how to manipulate locks and catches to open doors on the puzzle board. The childminder places a strong focus on developing older children's literacy, mathematical and personal independence skills to help them be ready for their move on to school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's well-being, health and physical development are promoted effectively. Children benefit from a good range of outings in the local area. They develop social skills and confidence during visits to a local playgroup where they interact with their peers. Visits to parks and play centres are used to promote children's physical skills and well-being. The childminder is friendly and attentive. She provides a welcoming and nurturing environment where children settle quickly. Young children are confident, curious and eager to learn. Children make choices about their play and they develop skills to help them become independent learners. The childminder respects and values the uniqueness of every child and works closely with parents to meet their individual care needs. Children learn how to keep themselves safe while on outings and during their play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are supported well and make good progress in all aspects of learning from their starting points. They develop good language skills, behave well and eagerly engage in a good range of activities. This ensures children develop the key skills needed for school and future life.
