This provision is good
The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment. Children are happy and enjoy their time with her. The childminder has very good procedures in place to gain information from parents when children start. This helps her effectively plan for their individual needs, interests and abilities. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children behave well. The childminder provides clear guidance and explanations to help children understand what is acceptable behaviour. The childminder works well in partnerships with other settings children attend to support a consistent approach to children's development and care needs. Parents are very happy with the service the childminder offers. They comment that she is 'very professional' and 'amazing with the children.' The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her environment and takes positive action to minimise any hazards. This helps children to be able to play safely.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities for children to learn about their own and others' cultures. The childminder does not always encourage children to do things for themselves and fully develop their independence skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on the children's learning and development. The inspector viewed all the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including suitability checks and children's records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the processes to follow. She has kept her knowledge up to date and reflects this well within her practice. The childminder attends regular training to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, she is now more aware of the signs and symptoms that would give cause for concern. She closely monitors children's progress to help identify any gaps in development early and provide the appropriate support. The childminder uses the views of children, parents and other professionals to help evaluate her service well. This helps her improve the quality of the provision and provide better outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively uses the information from her observations and assessments to plan for children's next stage in learning. She supports their communication and language skills well. For example, she uses continual discussion and repetition of words to extend children's language. The childminder promotes children's mathematical development, for example, as she encourages them to draw circles and uses positional language such as 'on top'. She follows children's lead in play and responds effectively to their emerging interests. For instance, they draw a cow and name the body parts. The childminder provides regular opportunities to involve parents in their children's progress. For example, she regularly shares development folders and provides activities parents can continue with their children at home. This helps support continuity in learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a range of activities and resources that children can freely access. This encourages them to lead their own play and make their own choices. She helps children develop their senses in play, such as when they explore and investigate natural materials. Children form secure emotional attachments and positive relationships with her. The childminder helps children learn about healthy lifestyles. For instance, she provides healthy options at mealtimes and daily opportunities for them to be physically active. This supports their physical well-being. Children learn their views are of value and important, for example, when the childminder asks them what they would like to eat or play with.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and are prepared well for their next stage in development. They are confident and use their imagination well in play, such as pretending dough is a rocket. Children persist when difficulties arise. For example, they try hard to remove a small item stuck in a toy helicopter. Overall, they are gaining the necessary skills they need for their move to school or nursery.
