This provision is good

 Children share warm and trusting relationships with the childminder. They settle quickly, are happy and confident in her care and feel safe.  The childminder uses her observations and accurate assessments of the children's learning to provide a wide range of learning opportunities and activities, which they enjoy. Children make good progress in their learning and development.  The childminder reflects on her practice, attends training to further her knowledge and skills and keeps up to date with changes through discussions with other childminders. This helps her to improve her provision and has a positive impact on outcomes for children.  The childminder works closely with parents and involves them in their children's learning. She provides them with important information and shares their children's next steps in learning.  The childminder provides a warm and nurturing environment. Children freely choose

from a good range of resources and equipment to develop their own play and learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not regularly seek the views of parents on all aspects of her provision to help with her self-reflection.  The childminder misses opportunities for children to become familiar with words and numbers and to learn about the natural world.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide parents with more opportunities to give feedback on all aspects of the provision and use this information to drive improvement  provide further opportunities for children to become familiar with words and numbers, and learn about the world.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning records.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector took into account the views of parents from their written comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibility to keep children safe. She keeps her knowledge up to date through training opportunities and is confident to recognise the signs or symptoms that may be a cause for concern. She is clear about the reporting procedure to follow if she did have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments on her home, garden and the outings she takes with the children to help keep them safe. She evaluates her provision well and makes plans to drive improvement; for example, developing the outside area to increase opportunities for children to plant and grow.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well. She establishes at the outset what children know and can do, and plans well-focused activities to support individual learning needs successfully. The childminder talks to the children constantly as they play. She repeats words and sounds back to young children to support their communication and language skills. Children enjoy exploring and investigating. For example, they push buttons and turn knobs to find out what happens and how things work. This develops their understanding of the world. Children are developing good literacy skills. The childminder provides many opportunities and encourages children's interest in books. For example, during the inspection, the childminder and children shared a story. The childminder encouraged the children to feel the different textures in the book and children smiled and laughed as the childminder panted and barked like a dog as she told the story. This helps to develop

children's vocabulary and extends their learning effectively.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children establish a secure emotional attachment to the childminder, which provides them with a strong sense of well-being and supports them emotionally. The childminder encourages children's good behaviour. She gives them lots of praise and encouragement, and supports them well to share and take turns. The childminder teaches the children about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. For example, they enjoy nutritious foods and follow effective hygiene routines, taking part in physical activities every day.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are inquisitive and motivated to learn. They make good progress in their learning and development from their individual starting points. They have good personal and social skills, and are able to make choices confidently. Children persevere well with tasks and challenges, such as fitting toys together to make them work. This prepares them well for their future learning and school.
