This provision is good

 Children are happy, confident and settle well. They have close relationships with the childminder who adapts activities to meet children's different needs.  The childminder continues to keep herself updated with changes to the statutory framework and continues to develop her professional knowledge through training.  The childminder uses very good communication skills to constantly engage children. This helps them to develop highly competent listening and speaking skills.  The childminder implements and shares her policies and procedures with parents so that they are aware of how the childminder supports their children's safety, health and well-being.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder's system for tracking children's development does not rigorously enable her to sharply assess gaps in learning, to help children make even better progress.  The childminder does not always take opportunities share children's next steps in learning with parents and other settings, to fully support children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on systems to monitor children's learning in order to identify gaps in children's learning more quickly  share further children's learning with parents and other settings in order to support children's next steps in learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector completed observations of the children engaged in activities with the childminder.  The inspector sampled some of the documents that the childminder uses to support her practice.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback that they had submitted.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements systems to promote children's safety and well-being. She has a good understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to safeguard all children in her care. The childminder implements safety measures, both in the home and while on outings, and has a good knowledge of her responsibilities. The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements and keeps up to date with current legislation. She evaluates her practice well and listens to the views of parents and children to meet their needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts skilfully with children and promotes their language and communication skills well. For example, she uses everyday routines, including mealtimes, to teach children to count and name colours and shapes. Children choose happily from a wide range of resources that promote their learning and development effectively. The childminder uses her knowledge and experience to monitor children's learning and plans activities to promote children's next steps in learning. She adapts activities to children's different learning needs and allows them to be independent learners.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's physical and emotional well-being very well. She creates a welcoming environment in which children feel secure. She comforts children when needed and models good behaviour consistently well. Children show delightful manners and have respect for one another while playing. The childminder ensures that children benefit from fresh air and exercise daily and explore the local community and parks. The childminder accesses many local playgroups and the local library to help children socialise with others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are well prepared for the next stages of their education. For example, they gain useful skills in communication and language development, and social skills, showing a positive attitude towards their learning. The childminder supports children well in encouraging them to be independent and successful in managing their own care needs.
