This provision is good
The childminder and her co-childminder provide a well-resourced and welcoming learning environment. All children make good progress towards their next stage of learning, given their individual starting points. The childminder has built positive relationships with parents and other settings children attend, and uses these to help her meet the needs of the children. The childminder has an accurate understanding of the safeguarding requirements. She follows the robust systems for safeguarding children consistently. The childminder uses effective systems to monitor children's progress and identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder develops close and secure bonds with children. This helps children to display good levels of personal, social and emotional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not effectively evaluate how well the provision meets children's needs to help improve outcomes for children. The childminder does not always give children time to manage their own clothing to help promote their independence.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen systems for self-evaluation to ensure that all requirements are met and to help drive continuous improvements increase opportunities for children to develop the skills to manage their own clothing and to help promote their independence.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder, her co- childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector viewed documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures. The inspector looked through the completed self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands her role in child protection and she is fully aware of the procedures to follow should a concern arise. The childminder and her co-childminder work closely as a team, sharing the recording systems to maintain an in-depth range of records on the children. The records of medication and accidents are very detailed. The childminder thoroughly risk assesses children's surroundings, which effectively contributes towards keeping them safe. She keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, for example, recently updating her safeguarding training to keep abreast with changes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of learning and development requirements. She carries out regular assessments to check children's progress and plan for their next stage of learning. The childminder promotes children's early mathematical skills very well. For example, children quickly learn to count, making good use of number puzzles and reinforcing their learning with resources such as the numbered mat on the floor. The children are able to recognise the letters that make up their names, and the childminder is planning specific activities to help them progress further to write their names in full.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder interacts well with children and listens attentively to what they have to say. She establishes positive and trusting relationships with them, valuing the uniqueness of each child. Children settle in quickly, develop confidence and feel a great sense of belonging. The childminder recognises what each child can achieve independently and is effective in promoting positive behaviour. For example, the children abide by the house rules and use them as a guide in making the right choices. The children learn to take turns and to share. The childminder teaches the children about manners and tolerance, and plans different activities to increase their awareness of other cultures and to promote diversity. The childminder provides healthy foods and takes children on walking trips to the local park and school. This successfully contributes to children's physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points, and they become confident learners. They lead their play and make decisions that empower them and give them a sense of responsibility. For example, children are able to confidently express their views while making decisions about their play activities. They have good manipulative skills, as seen in their pencil control which is developing well. Children acquire useful skills in readiness for their move on to school.
