p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection and the procedures to keep children safe from harm. She updates her knowledge and improves her practice, for example, through regular training and working with other professionals. This has helped her to improve how she uses observations to promote children's next steps. The childminder reflects on her practice and uses children's and parents' views to help her improve the quality of her provision. Parents comment positively on the varied opportunities to share children's learning at home. For example, the childminder encourages children to take 'Pete the Bear' home regularly and uses this as a prompt to help them share their experiences and involve parents. The childminder uses her skills effectively in her teaching and the learning experiences she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans and organises rewarding activities, which children enjoy. She provides a good balance between activities that she leads and those that children choose for themselves. The childminder skilfully follows up children's interests and next steps for learning in the activities she provides. She interacts well with children, supporting them to think and extending their vocabulary as they play. Children develop their early counting skills well. They eagerly investigate different materials and express their ideas as they design and make their own creations. Children enjoy books and listen attentively to stories as they learn to concentrate and listen well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds strong relationships with the children and promotes their emotional well-being successfully. Children are comfortable and secure in her care, and play happily in her welcoming home. The childminder encourages children to be independent from an early age; she has high expectations and they behave well. The childminder promotes children's physical development through a wide range of opportunities. Children enjoy being outdoors. For example, they grow their own vegetables and learn how to care for others when looking after animals. Children talk to the childminder about their food and have an understanding of eating healthily. Children learn about the world around them and keeping themselves safe. For example, the childminder teaches them about road safety when they take walks in the local community. Children receive frequent praise for their achievements, which helps to develop their confidence and self-esteem.
