This provision is good
The childminder takes children's interests into account. She provides a wide range of activities, resources and outings to engage their learning. Children are motivated and confident learners who enjoy exploring. They make good progress in all areas of learning. The childminder promotes children's self-esteem and emotional well-being particularly effectively. Children are able to discuss their emotions sensitively and they explore the motivation of characters in stories. Older children play with younger children very well, recognising their needs. Partnerships with parents support children's learning and development. They receive daily written updates on children's experiences and regular assessment information. Parents speak very positively about the quality of care their children receive from the childminder. The childminder uses her links with other childminders, and the views of parents and

children, to ensure her self-evaluation is accurate. The improvements she makes have a positive impact on the outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's professional development opportunities do not always focus on raising teaching to an outstanding level. The childminder does not consistently share information about children's learning and ideas or plan with other settings children attend.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities inside as the childminder interacted with children. The inspector looked at children's records and learning journeys, and sampled the policies and formal records. The inspector discussed the childminder's self evaluation process. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the observations. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector checked the qualifications and training of the childminder, along with evidence of suitability. The inspector considered the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is aware of who to contact should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She has implemented a range of policies and procedures to help her ensure children are safe, including daily risk assessments, both inside and outside the home. The childminder attends training to update her knowledge of requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reflects on the quality of her provision and shares ideas and best practice with other childminders. She has made many improvements to her provision. The childminder regularly checks that all children make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses sensitive observations and children's current interests to plan for their individual needs. Children benefit from a good balance of structured activities and spontaneous play. Children interested in animals visited a farm park. They learnt new words to describe baby animals. They fed animals and gained an understanding of how to care for them. Children enjoyed playing with the toy farm set to consolidate their learning. Children receive good preparation for school and the next stage in their learning. The childminder promotes children's literacy well. Children take an active part in storytelling. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills and mathematics through play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. The childminder offers thoughtful guidance to children about what they can and cannot do in different situations. They develop an appropriate understanding of risk and how to stay safe. Children benefit from experiences of socialising in different situations and in larger groups of people. The childminder offers a warm and consistent approach. She considers children's personal choices and preferences as she involves them in planning the daily routine. They develop healthy lifestyles. They enjoy daily outdoor play and learn about healthy foods.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They learn to be independent, acquire good language skills and communicate their needs clearly to the childminder. Children are confident during their play and interactions with the childminder. For example, they engage well in imaginative play opportunities. Older children demonstrate their thinking skills particularly well. For example, during inspection, they built on the childminder's commentary to provide their own explanations for what they saw. Children develop key skills for the future and are ready for the next stage in their learning and their move on to school.
