p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder effectively monitors her provision to identify strengths and areas for improvement, such as through a quality assurance scheme. Furthermore, she seeks opportunities to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, she is currently studying for a childcare qualification at level 3. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder skilfully incorporates mathematical language into children's play. For example, she talks about colours, sizes and numbers. The childminder uses her observations and assessments well to identify children's next steps in learning. She ensures that her planning is flexible, so she can continually follow and build on children's interests. The childminder encourages parents to contribute to the assessment of children when they join the setting. She uses this information well to build an all-round picture of children and plan effectively to meet their learning needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's physical and emotional well-being effectively and creates a welcoming environment in which children feel secure. She engages children in activities that value and reflect their differing backgrounds and experiences. Children play in a clean and safe environment. The childminder helps children to play alongside other children and to take turns. She manages behaviour well. For example, during an activity, she provides positive distraction, such as singing, to avoid minor disputes. The childminder promotes a healthy lifestyle. For example, children enjoy healthy snacks and they benefit from daily opportunities for fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and the move to school; for example, they are learning to speak confidently in English.
