This provision is good
The childminder provides a broad selection of resources and activities that interest children and motivate them to learn. She plans interesting experiences that help children move on their learning and make good progress overall. Children feel welcome and relaxed in the childminder's comfortable home. The childminder has a calm and friendly approach, helping children to settle quickly, build strong bonds, feel safe and secure. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to providing a good quality provision. She evaluates her practice well to identify and deal with any areas for development. Parents and other settings receive good information about children's care and learning, to keep them informed of children's progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always extend opportunities to focus on developing children's speech and language further, to share their thoughts and ideas, and ask questions. The childminder does not always gain detailed information from parents to determine children's levels of development when they first start, and does not encourage their contributions to their children's learning and progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

encourage younger children's speech and vocabulary more, to share their thoughts and ideas and ask questions increase information gathered from parents about children's starting points and include them more in contributing towards their children's learning and development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder with the children. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation including policies, qualification certificates and children's learning records. The inspector reviewed and took account of the childminder's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder has a clear knowledge of her responsibility to act on any child protection concerns and report her concerns, to keep children safe from harm. The childminder has addressed the recommendation from her last inspection well, to monitor children's progress more effectively to identify gaps in learning and inform her planning. She attends regular training to update her knowledge and skills, for example, to consider more carefully the purpose of activities to target younger children's progress and learning needs. The childminder successfully seeks the opinions of parents, other providers and the local authority in order to monitor her performance. This helps keep her knowledge up to date and to make changes that benefit those children attending. The childminder works closely with a local nursery, which enables a supportive joint approach to meeting children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations of children well to plan experiences that match their learning needs and address their next steps. The range of stimulating activities and the childminder's interaction positively engages younger children. For example, the childminder supports them effectively to solve problems as they learn how to use pop up and matching toys. The childminder successfully involves children in reading stories, encouraging them to turn the pages and lift up flaps, developing their curiosity and awareness of the information books provide. During activities, children engage well and the childminder skilfully supports their investigations, for example, as they transport sand and rice between containers, learning how to use a range of tools and developing their coordination.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gives clear and consistent guidance to help children become more independent and behave well. This helps them learn to take turns and share, and socialise well with others. Children enjoy a well-resourced environment, and confidently choose from the wide variety of toys and play opportunities that help promote their learning. The childminder takes children on many exciting trips within their local community so they learn about nature and the people that live around them. She implements care routines well, helping children learn about the importance of leading healthy lifestyles through healthy diets, good hygiene practices and regular physical exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They gain the skills they need for the next stages in their learning, such as school. Children develop good independence to make choices and take care of some of their own needs, and enjoy learning.
