This provision is good
The childminder manages children's behaviour effectively. For instance, she reminds children of dangers, explains consequences and helps them to follow rules. Children behave well. The childminder completes robust assessments of children's learning and development across all areas. She uses these well to plan activities for children that help them to build on their achievements. Children make at least good progress in relation to their initial starting points. The childminder has good relationships with children. Children feel safe, secure and comfortable with the childminder and settle quickly when they first start. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to be healthy and well. For example, she encourages children to eat healthy foods and supports them to take regular exercise.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not yet fully engage parents to share children's learning from home. She does not currently explore ways to gain their views about the service she provides to drive further improvements and provide better outcomes for children. The childminder does not ensure that all distractions are fully minimised to promote further learning opportunities. For instance, during the inspection at times, the television interrupted children's concentration during some activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen further links with parents to provide more opportunities to share children's learning from home and to gain their views to promote further continuous improvements review environments children use to reduce all distractions, to support their learning and enjoyment fully.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector toured the areas of the premises that children use. The inspector spoke to the childminder during the inspection to determine her knowledge of the requirements. The inspector read written comments from parents to gain their views. The inspector observed children and carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector viewed relevant documents and written policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements and follows robust policies and procedures. This helps her to provide a good standard of care and to support children's learning and development effectively. The childminder practises emergency evacuations with children and talks to them about safety when crossing roads. She checks the areas and resources that are available for children to use to make sure they remain safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the procedures to follow to report concerns about children's welfare and is vigilant to signs that a child may be at harm. She carries out mandatory training, keeps up to date with changes and knows how to seek advice from others to promote better outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans interesting activities for children, based on a good knowledge of their individual needs and interests. She has high, realistic expectations of what children can achieve and supports them to extend their learning effectively. Children develop their physical skills through a range of activities. For example, they enjoy hand painting and going to local parks. The childminder asks children appropriate questions to extend their language and thinking skills. Children learn about diversity. For instance, the childminder introduces them to different cultures and celebrations through a range of experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder rewards children's achievements with praise and acknowledgement. This helps children to recognise their own accomplishments. Within their daily routines, children develop an awareness of good hygiene tasks such as washing their hands before they eat. The childminder sensitively changes younger children's nappies to meet their care needs, while older children use the toilet by themselves. Children have good opportunities to develop their independence. For example, they help to prepare their own snack and learn to use cutlery from a young age. Younger children go with the childminder to pick up older children from school. This supports them to become familiar with changes to their routine and with the idea of going to school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Outcomes for children are good. Children gain confidence and enjoy their time with the childminder. They enjoy learning about shapes and colours, making similarities and developing early counting skills while they play. Children have good opportunities to socialise and meet other children. They enjoy looking at books and they are starting to understand that marks have meaning. Children learn to recognise their names and develop early literacy skills well. Children build on their achievements and develop well in preparation for going to school and for all future learning.
