p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is extremely organised. She has developed a range of comprehensive procedures that informs her highly professional practice. She has a wealth of experience in caring for children and is dedicated to continuously improving her already expert knowledge and skills. This helps her to build upon the already outstanding care and learning she provides. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has excellent, up-to-date knowledge of the procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child. The childminder promotes a highly inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, respected and valued. She has established highly effective partnerships with other settings and professionals that help to promote continuity of care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has expert knowledge of how children learn. She skilfully identifies precise next steps in children's learning and plans activities that are tailored exceptionally well to their individual needs and interests. She intends to collect more information from parents about their children's abilities when they first begin to attend, so that she can plan for their learning even more effectively from the outset. The childminder takes advantage of every opportunity to teach children new skills and to solve problems. For example, she lays out a train track and children must work out which piece is needed to complete the track. There is an outstanding focus on children's developing communication and language skills. Even very young children become engrossed in story books and listen with anticipation as the childminder skilfully reads to them with great enthusiasm. She listens attentively, teaches them to pronounce words correctly and introduces new vocabulary.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

This contributes to the excellent rates of progress children make in this area of learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has very high expectations of children and provides them with consistent boundaries. She gives them clear messages about what is right and wrong. Children respond very well and their behaviour is exemplary. They learn from an early age to respect and understand the needs of others. They carry out many tasks for themselves, which encourages their independence. Children spend a lot of time outdoors. They benefit from an abundance of fresh air and exercise, which helps to promote their physical well- being. The childminder teaches them good health and hygiene habits and leads by example. She makes excellent use of her local community and takes children to local playgroups and story sessions to give them experience of being part of a larger group. This helps to promote their social skills and prepare them for when they start school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are highly motivated and become deeply engrossed in activities. They have a very positive attitude towards learning. For example, they persevere at challenging jigsaw puzzles for a long time and do not give up easily. All children are working within, or above, the range of development typical for their age and all make excellent progress. Highly focused teaching helps children to learn key skills in literacy and mathematics that give them an excellent start when they move on to more formal learning in school.
