This provision is good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Staff plan a range of stimulating learning activities and teaching is of a consistently good standard. Children behave in a positive way; they build good relationships with each other and use well-developed social skills. The management and staff evaluate the setting well. They identify their strengths and areas to develop, and work hard to drive improvement forward. The management team monitors staff performance through regular and targeted supervision meetings. Training is specific and has a positive impact on children's experiences. This is particularly helpful for those children with additional needs. Children benefit from continuity of care and learning because partnerships with parents and other providers are well planned and considered. This has a particularly positive impact on those children learning English as an additional language.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At small-group times, staff occasionally miss opportunities to follow children's play ideas and adapt the activities to keep them engaged. Staff do not always extend and develop children's interests in early writing skills as they play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

review how group activities are planned and organised so that all children are fully engaged and challenged make the most of all opportunities that arise while children play to better support and develop their early writing skills further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed staff and children inside and outside. The inspector held a leadership and management meeting with the management team. The inspector looked at documentation, including children's records and learning information, safeguarding documents and a sample of policies and procedures. The inspector took the views of parents into account. The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the manager.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The management team and staff understand child protection issues and the procedure to follow if they have concerns. They successfully promote children's safety and welfare. For example, staff take children slowly and carefully to play in a nearby garden and remind them of road safety rules before they leave. The management team has identified training programmes that are in response to children's care and learning needs and have a very positive impact on children's experiences. For example, staff have developed a strong knowledge of how best to promote positive behaviour and all children benefit from this. The management team uses its qualifications and experience effectively. For example, the learning environment is attractive, very well resourced and thoughtfully organised. Staff take great pride in providing good-quality resources, and use these well to help children explore and learn.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are interested, excited and keen to take part in the learning opportunities available. For example, children enjoy feeding a range of pet animals and talk with enthusiasm about the needs of living things. The management team and staff make detailed and evaluative observations of children's achievements. They plan interesting activities in response to children's needs and this helps to promote their next steps in learning. For example, children play in a mud kitchen, they are keen to take part and develop their imaginations. Children enjoy representing their own ideas and experimenting in a well-resourced creative area. For example, they play with lentils, toy bears and tell each other a story. Children improve their early reading skills and learn to cooperate. Staff track children's progress effectively, and note any gaps in their development and target these areas. All children make consistently good progress from their initial starting points.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children communicate very well with each other. They listen carefully to staff and respond well to the routine. Children consistently behave positively and treat each other kindly and with respect. Children use independent skills that will help them as they move on to school. For example, children organise their own snacks and help to wash up after they have eaten. Children benefit from well-planned outdoor experiences and plenty of fresh air and exercise. Children are confident and achieve well. The positive relationship parents and children build with their key person encourages good information sharing, helping children to feel emotionally secure.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain the skills they will need in preparation for school. They develop positive attitudes towards each other. They are happy, confident and motivated learners.
