children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people continue to settle quickly and make good progress. They develop and gain confidence from living in a very stable and safe environment. Staff support them to establish normal patterns of day-to-day life. They benefit from improved educational achievements and attendance and a marked reduction in historical high risk behaviours. They develop alternative coping strategies, such as talking through their feelings with staff during periods of crisis. As a result, young people make better choices with regard to their emotional well-being and personal safety. The quality of the relationships between the staff team and young people are good. Relationships are very positive and nurturing and this enables young people to change. Young people's independence increases and they learn new social and life skills. They have positive opportunities to develop friendships, new interests and hobbies. Young people are safe. Staff support and educate them using strategies that are

tailored to their individual needs. Staff know each young person well and have good insight into triggers that might result in a reoccurrence of a behaviour or an increase in likelihood that a young person might not cope with a situation. They provide excellent reassurance to young people and are proactive in breaking patterns of behaviour. When young people make poor choices or decisions that put them at risk then correct safeguarding procedures are followed. These involve partnership agencies when appropriate. Young people are supported and where appropriate challenged. Further work then takes place around protective behaviours, safety and well-being. Staff observe and monitor young people’s interactions with each other and their peers. They are alert to the impact of bullying behaviour and the Registered Manager ensures action is quickly taken to intervene, challenge and respond. Discussions take place to support young people to develop their social skills.

Educational sessions also take place and help young people understand their emotions, the impact of their behaviours on others and future alternative actions. The home is managed efficiently and successfully. There are excellent relationships with partner agencies. Staff feel supported, are professional and well informed. The registered manager has a good understanding of the strengths of the service and the areas for further development. She uses a clear development plan and internal and external quality assurance systems to monitor and improve practice and outcomes for young people. The recommendation made at the previous Ofsted inspection has been met.

What the inspection judgements mean
At the interim inspection we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the Inspection of children's homes: framework for inspection.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
