This provision is good
Children show good levels of confidence and an eagerness to learn as they play. The quality of teaching is consistently good. Staff know the children well; they plan stimulating activities and provide a fun environment. As a result, children make good progress in all areas of learning. Staff protect children's welfare through good supervision, robust use of risk assessment and their effective deployment around the pre-school. A strong partnership with parents helps to ensure both children's care and learning needs are well met.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The manager recognises that further improvements can be made to help children learn about technology. Occasionally, staff do not make the most of opportunities to challenge children's thinking and learning during activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching both inside and outside. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including staff suitability checks and records of children's progress. The inspector talked to staff about how they support children's individual learning and how they monitor their progress. The inspector gathered the views of parents who were dropping off and collecting their children on the day of inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager to assess the support for children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a thorough understanding of how to protect children from harm and how to make certain the environment is as safe as possible. The owner is ambitious and keen that she and her staff team provide consistently good-quality education and care for every child, regardless of their need or background. Robust appraisal and relevant training enable staff to evaluate and improve their own practice, which has a positive impact on the children's learning. There is a strong, collaborative partnership with parents, who comment very positively about their children's experiences at the pre-school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
There is a busy and purposeful atmosphere within the pre-school and all children are thoroughly engaged in their learning. Staff offer good teaching support as children play. For example, they encourage children to anticipate the next rhyming word in a story book. Staff assess the children's learning and progress effectively. This enables them to accurately identify where they can provide further support for each child. As a result, children gain skills that are important when they move on to school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children establish a strong rapport with their main carers at the pre-school and each other. This helps them to feel a strong sense of belonging within the pre-school. They behave very well and respond positively to requests, for example to help to tidy up. This enables them to learn how to care for their environment. Children gain good levels of independence throughout the pre-school routine, such as putting on their coats to go outside to play and spreading their own toast at snack time. Staff know the children well and support children's specific needs, including those relating to their health, effectively. They work collaboratively with parents to teach children important messages about how important it is to eat healthily. All of the children greatly enjoy playing outside where they get plenty of physical exercise. For example, they proudly demonstrate how they can do star jumps on the trampoline and safely balance on bucket stilts.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are busy and happy learners who confidently make their own decisions about what they do and play with, both inside and out in the garden. They work together to solve problems such as how to make a ramp stick to the toy garage so they can roll cars down it. This helps them to make sense of their world and develop good mathematical skills. All of the children develop good key skills that they need for the next stage in their learning. Children with special educational needs benefit from good ongoing support to make progress and develop skills they will need at school, such as sitting and listening for short periods.
