Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has recently started minding children and shows clear skills and competence in her provision. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the child protection procedures, which enables her to safeguard children's welfare. The childminder undertakes thorough risk assessments to check that everywhere is safe for children. She provides age-appropriate equipment, such as reins and wrist straps, to keep children safe on outings. The childminder uses information from training to update her assessment procedures. Effective systems are in place to work in partnership with others to share relevant information.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder places accurate focus on the areas of learning and development for individual children. She is attentive and supportive to children, so that they learn through play. For example, babies become increasingly mobile and mimic actions, such as to wave 'bye-bye'. They recognise the childminder's voice and look with noticeable interest as she talks to them. The childminder plans themes and displays children's creativity, to help children recall their activities. For instance, children make pictures about transport, colours, shapes and opposites. The childminder involves children in activities that link to the seasons, special events and the natural world.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder takes effective measures to promote and protect children's health, safety and well-being. For example, she is vigilant in meeting children's individual dietary requirements. The childminder conscientiously checks that ingredients are safe and suitable for each child during cooking activities. She demonstrates good hygiene practice to prevent risk of illness and infection for children. The childminder gently nurtures babies to keep them comfortable and safe. Outings to toddler groups increase the social opportunities for young children. They enjoy trips to the swimming pool, beach and zoo, which develop their awareness of other environments.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Babies and young children enjoy being with the childminder and make good progress from their starting points. They clearly feel content and secure. Their early skills develop well which is a firm basis for future learning.
