This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's well-being. She has effective strategies in place which help children settle and develop positive relationships. Children have access to a good range of resources and well-planned activities. They have fun, confidently explore their surroundings and develop friendships with their peers. Children are provided with a healthy and balanced diet. All meals are served at the table. Children have good manners and demonstrate their good social skills with their peers. Partnerships with parents and the local school are positive and well established. The childminder shares a good range of information about her childminding service. She promotes continuity of care and keeps parents well informed about their children's day and their progress within school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to explore their creativity and develop their imagination. Children walk home from school each day, spending time in the fresh air and benefiting from the exercise. However, the childminder does not give children a wider choice of opportunities to spend time in an enabling outdoor environment to build further on their abilities and skills and enjoy being in the natural world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities for children to build on their creative skills and imagination give children more time to experience being in an enabling outdoor environment.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and assessed the impact these have on the quality of provision for children. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the childminder's suitability and that of her household members, her training certificates and children's personal details. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children are cared for in a safe and secure environment. The childminder ensures children are appropriately supervised to support their safety and well-being. She has a clear understanding of what to do should she be concerned for a child's welfare. Effective partnerships have been established with parents of the children in her care. She welcomes them warmly into her home, sharing information about their child's day and any messages from school. Parents comment positively on the quality care and range of activities on offer to their children. The childminder regularly reflects on the quality of her provision. This helps her to make any improvements that may be required.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides care only to children who are in full-time education. Children enjoy their time in the childminder's care. Children of all ages play well together. They enjoy group games, sitting patiently for their turn. Older children explain to those new to the game, how to play and the aims of the game. Children show a good awareness of numbers as they count the number of dots on the dice and move the appropriate spaces. Children speak with a secure knowledge about things that interest them. They speak about the dinosaurs in the book they share with the childminder. They engage in conversation with visitors about where dinosaurs lived and what they ate. The childminder engages with children at appropriate times during their play. She asks a range of challenging questions, encouraging them to think and explore what they know.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy in the childminder's care and have strong bonds with her and their peers. The home is effectively organised to enable children to access resources and be independent in their play. Children show high levels of self-esteem. They engage in conversation with the childminder about their day at school. The childminder praises children highly for their achievements, sharing evidence of their excellent writing skills with parents when they arrive. Children display positive behaviour. They listen to the requests of the childminder and follow house rules appropriately. For example, they sit at the table for meals and put toys away when they are finished playing with them. Children begin to understand the rules for keeping safe. They learn how to cross the roads as they return from school with the childminder. They participate in regular fire drills in the home ensuring they understand what to do in the event of an emergency.
