Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector had discussions with the childminder and children. The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Thorough and robust risk assessments minimise possible hazards to children. The childminder has a high regard for the safety and welfare of children. For example, she ensures babies have a safe space to practise their early walking skills. The childminder evaluates her practice and provision effectively. For example, while visiting another setting, she identified children's interest in outdoor resources, and then developed similar opportunities for their learning in her garden. The childminder has a good relationship with the local school and pre-school, and she liaises closely with them to help prepare children well for school. For example, she gained information about how they teach children letter recognition and sounds to help her provide consistent support.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make choices about their play from an appealing range of toys. They take part in a good range of activities that motivate and engage them effectively in learning. The childminder is skilled at involving children of all ages and abilities. For example, she recognises younger children's interest in activities and provides opportunities for them to participate alongside older children. Children enjoy sharing books with the childminder and develop their early reading skills effectively. For example, they listen well to their favourite stories and eagerly join in with the childminder while she reads books. The childminder evaluates each individual child's progress and knows children well. For example, she knows what they enjoy playing with, which helps her to plan activities that are enjoyable and promote learning for individual children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children develop excellent independence skills. For example, the childminder encourages them exceptionally well to complete tasks for themselves and offers support and help when needed. This helps children develop high levels of confidence in their abilities. Children have an excellent understanding of playing safely. For example, the childminder gives highly effective explanations to develop their understanding and awareness of how to stay safe. Children willingly share toys and encourage others to join their play. They form excellent relationships with the childminder and each other. Children settle extremely quickly. For instance, the childminder is highly conscientious in following younger children's home routines, which helps them feel exceptionally safe and secure.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress across all areas of learning in relation to their starting points. They develop effective skills, such as independence, ready for their future learning, including starting school.
