The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is very confident about the procedures to follow in the event of a concern. She demonstrates an excellent understanding of all legal requirements and keeps herself up to date with changes in early years practice. The childminder recognises the benefits of undertaking additional professional development opportunities to help her maintain the outstanding quality of teaching and learning. For example, she attends early years conferences to build on her already extensive knowledge, discuss ideas with colleagues and introduce fresh ideas to her setting. As a result, she expresses a strong desire to further develop the already excellent range of activities available in the garden by reviewing the storage and accessibility of resources. Parents are extremely happy about the care and learning provided and comment that she is a fabulous childminder.

For example, toy dinosaurs and polar bears 'make' footprints in ice and snow and 'jump' from one piece of ice to another. The childminder skilfully tailors her use of language to support each child's stage of development. She extends their vocabulary and their language skills through skilful questioning. Disabled children and those with special educational needs acquire key skills to support their development. This

They are very confident and show high levels of independence, positively taking responsibility for simple tasks. For example, they take their own shoes off, hang their coat up and help tidy away toys after use. Children's emotional development is exceedingly well promoted. Children show by their actions that they feel very safe and secure within the environment. They initiate their own play and make choices about whom and what they want to play with. The childminder consistently praises and acknowledges children's achievements and contributions. This greatly enhances their sense of self-esteem.

p.3
