Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The quality of risk assessments and actions taken to manage or eliminate risks are superior. Systems for monitoring the effectiveness of all aspects of the provision are extensive. The childminder is highly proactive in accessing training courses and maintaining a high level of practice. This includes promptly improving her knowledge on current government requirements. Parents are meaningfully involved in the self-evaluation process. The childminder values their views so that their feedback can be incorporated into her plans for improvement. Parents say that their children thrive and are well prepared for dealing with the challenges presented when they start school. The childminder is proactive in making links with other early years providers in order to ensure continuity of care and learning for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder uses her extensive teaching skills to inspire, engage and motivate children to learn. She completes precise assessments and plans activities that successfully challenge each child. Children are curious about the natural world and are very keen to be involved when the childminder suggests they make feeders for birds. Children extend their mathematical knowledge in meaningful ways as they search in the garden for twigs, following the childminder's request for them to gather 12 of a similar size. Children confidently use mathematical language, counting, calculating and comparing the sizes of the twigs. They use their extremely good manipulative skills to spread grease onto tubes using small knives. They roll the tubes in bird seed, competently create holes using the sharp nib of a pencil, and insert one of the sticks. Children are deeply absorbed as they talk with the childminder about what kinds of birds they think the feeders will attract.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder offers children constant reassurance and time to participate in their activities at their own pace. She promotes their self-confidence and willingness to try new skills as she acknowledges and praises their efforts as well as their achievements. This supports their very positive behaviour. The partnerships with parents are excellent with regard to sharing information so that children's care needs are comprehensively met. Children's good health is promoted extremely well. They learn about healthy eating and know how food and exercise contributes to their good health. They manage risks for themselves, such as knowing that they must not eat berries when they are exploring outdoors. Children's emerging independence is fully supported by the childminder. She provides children with a range of experiences that support their understanding of diversity. There is scope to build further on their growing knowledge of the wider world
