Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the interactions of the childminder with them. The inspector spoke with the children and childminder at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation, risk assessments, and relevant policies and procedures. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder accesses regular training to update her professional knowledge and skills. She uses her new learning well. For example, she has extended the range of mathematical resources to support children's growing interest in number. The childminder has developed effective systems to enable her to reflect on the quality of her provision. She has considered the views of parents and children to help her to identify and target areas for improvement. Safeguarding is effective. p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

She helps children to develop a good understanding of mathematical concepts. For example, during the inspection children were involved in a baking activity. They learnt about measurement and quantities, and made comparisons of the sizes and shapes of the ingredients they diced. The childminder provides interesting opportunities to introduce children to different languages. For example, they regularly access pre-school language groups where they learn to sing songs in French.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to learn about keeping themselves healthy. For example, she teaches children to understand how germs are spread and the importance of washing their hands. Children are very independent and enjoy responsibility, such as in pouring their own drinks and helping to prepare their snack. They have good opportunities to develop essential social skills to help them move on to pre-school and school. For example, they visit local groups where they learn to mix with and make friendships with other children. The childminder helps children to understand about developing healthy lifestyles through, for example, daily opportunities to play outside to develop their physical activity skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children benefit from their time spent with the childminder. They are curious and are confident in asking questions about the things that they observe in their world. They concentrate for good periods of time on activities they enjoy. Children develop beneficial literacy skills. For example, they very effectively follow simple recipe books during their cooking activities, which they successfully use to recall and sequence the processes involved. Children make good progress in their learning and are well supported to develop the key skills to support them in their moves to pre-school and school.
