children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The young person continues to achieve well. She has exceeded her own expectations and has recently celebrated living at the home for one year, having previously experienced several placement break downs. This achievement is testament to her determination and is a result of the good quality, nurturing care she receives from the manager and staff team. Collectively they have been steadfast in supporting the young person, maintaining enthusiasm and commitment. The staff team are dynamic and have the resilience and skills to support the young person when her emotional health deteriorates. Strong attachments are evident.

Since the previous inspection the manager has streamlined the previously unwieldy recording systems. She is in the process of amalgamating five documents into one detailed care plan. The care plan template includes the local authority targets, behaviour management strategies, health needs and contact arrangements. As a result of this revised plan, the staff team will be provided with accurate, concise and up-to-date information. In addition, senior leaders are undertaking a full review of the remaining recording systems used across the organisation. The previous recommendation relating to records has been reinstated to allow for these improvements to be completed.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The young person, manager and staff team receive regular support and guidance from a range of health care services. The organisations psychologist regularly meets with young people. This support and guidance has empowered the young person to recognise and understand her own emotional needs. She is more able to talk about how she is feeling and communicate any changes to her emotional well- being. She makes the most of an ‘emotions tool box’. As a result, she has made significant progress to stabilise her health and mature emotionally. As the young person moves towards adulthood, the manager has started to plan for the young person’s future. She works collaboratively with a wide range of services and has vigorously challenged professionals to ensure the young person’s educational needs are prioritised and the correct support is in place. This work will support the young person’s successful move from the home.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The manager and staff team have successfully supported the young person to develop her independent skills. As a result, the young person now confidently uses public transport to visit the local town, attend work experience and visit with family members. She is learning to drive and having achieved a 90% pass in the practice theory test and increased driving lessons from once to twice a week, her confidence has grown. The young person is well supported by staff to leave the home and live more independently. Relationships between the young person and her family has improved significantly and overnight visits have progressed well. A family member said; ‘I can’t thank the manager and staff enough. My daughter has achieved so much since living at the home. The manager and staff are great. My relationship with my daughter has grown, we now enjoy spending time together’. Since the previous inspection the young person has been actively involved in the

selection and sourcing of replacement furniture for her bedroom, soft furnishing for the living room and has chosen the colour scheme in preparation for the home being redecorated. However, the recommendation from the previous inspection relating to the maintenance of the home has not yet been fully met.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
