This provision is good
The childminder is a good teacher who knows the children she cares for very well. She provides children with a range of interesting learning experiences and activities. Children make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder is a good role model. She provides children with consistent praise and guidance to help them learn what counts as appropriate behaviour and accepted boundaries. Children are kind, polite and well mannered, and behave extremely well. The childminder establishes good partnerships with parents. She regularly shares information with about their children's ongoing progress and how this can be continued at home. Parents comment how much their children look forward to attending. The childminder is committed to providing good outcomes for children and uses self- evaluation well to reflect on her practice. She takes into account the views of parents and children, which she gains from her regular discussions with them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder occasionally over directs children's play and does not always give them enough time to think about and respond to her enthusiastic questioning. The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to develop children's mathematical skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
give children more time to think about and answer questions in their own way and to expand on their individual interests more fully. extend opportunities for children to develop and practise their early mathematical skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information and learning records, safeguarding procedures, qualifications and training certificates, self- evaluation, attendance registers and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and they jointly evaluated an activity. The inspector also spoke with children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the written views of parents and carers provided on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. In addition, she teaches children how to keep themselves safe and ensures risks in the home and on outings are minimised. The childminder monitors and tracks children's development and ongoing progress. Any gaps in their learning are quickly identified and strategies put in place to narrow them. The childminder reflects on the effectiveness of her teaching. For example, she attends regular training to update her knowledge and develop her skills, and professional development opportunities are targeted to meet the needs of children. The childminder maintains a two-way flow of information with other providers children attend to help enable continuous learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children as they play and accurately identifies and plans for the next steps in their learning. Overall, the childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, she listens carefully to children's speech and instinctively repeats and models new words, such as 'dinosaur' and 'squidgy', as children talk about their friends and families. Children show good levels of concentration as they play. For example, they become immersed as they break soft dough into small pieces and make 'blue peas' or create their own handprints and footprints. The childminder extends learning opportunities as they arise. For example, she encourages children to play a colour game as they build with wooden blocks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's well-being and emotional development well. For example, children have built warm and trusting relationships with her and demonstrate a sense of belonging. Children learn about healthy lifestyles and make healthy food choices. For example, they independently wash their hands throughout the day and discuss that fruit is healthier to eat than chips. Children have many opportunities to be active and engage in physical activities, such as moving their bodies to songs and playing daily outside. Children learn about each other's similarities and differences, and use a variety of resources which help reflect diversity and acknowledge cultural differences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills that they need in readiness for school. For example, they develop their early literacy skills and access a wide range of books. Children become confident and imaginative as they play. For example, they share with the childminder that they have suddenly become a dinosaur. Children learn good social skills as they help with appropriate jobs, such as tidying away activities after they have used them.
