This provision is good
The childminder knows the children well and is able to meet their needs efficiently. She works well together with parents to provide a consistent approach to children's care, learning and development, which parents greatly appreciate. The childminder provides a secure environment and a good range of resources for children to explore freely. Children show great curiosity and engage well in self-chosen activities. They form close bonds with the childminder, who supports their emotional well-being effectively. The childminder has a positive attitude to improving her skills. She builds on her early years qualification, consistently researching and updating her knowledge to improve outcomes for children. Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder uses her observations well to identify children's next steps and provide targeted activities to support their development and interests.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities during children's play to help them learn more about size, shape and position. The childminder does not gather as much information as possible from parents about their children's abilities before they start, to help her monitor children's progress more efficiently over time.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching as children played inside. The inspector spoke with the childminder about her understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements and her self-evaluation of the provision. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's assessment records, parents' written comments, and the childminder's policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of her responsibilities to protect children from harm and the procedures to follow should she have a child protection concern. There is good partnership working with safeguarding professionals to maintain children's welfare. The childminder evaluates her provision effectively to drive improvement. She gains feedback from parents and identifies key areas for improvement, such as having a sharper focus on younger children's learning and support for their emotional well-being.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is respectful of children's home languages and family traditions, and children have a strong sense of self. For example, when young children chatter on the toy telephone, the childminder engages them well, speaking in Italian and repeating the conversation in English, to extend children's communication skills. Young children are intrigued by books hidden out of sight and search for them. They understand that things exist even when hidden and clap when they find them. The childminder models counting well to support children's early mathematical skills. There are good opportunities for children to build and solve problems. For example, children confidently stack wooden blocks on top of each other, smiling and clapping at their achievements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder makes good use of the local environment to help children learn about the world, people and communities. The childminder protects children well on outings and they learn how to keep themselves safe. Children gain confidence to play alongside others and build positive friendships. They behave well and learn to take turns, for example, as they engage in ball-passing games. Children are aware of their own needs and familiar routines. For example, children push their favourite sleep time book away from the childminder, shaking their head, showing that they are not ready for a sleep and remove their bib when they have finished eating. The childminder supports children well to adopt healthy lifestyles and meets their care needs efficiently.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident learners, have high self-esteem and make decisions about their play. They investigate well, for example, exploring how to operate the toy telephone, showing a good ability to solve problems, ready for their future learning. There are good opportunities for children to gain key skills in readiness for school. For example, children use chalkboards to explore the marks they make, develop early writing skills, and concentrate well when they listen to stories.
