This provision is good
The childminder works closely with parents who warmly praise her care. Parents share their views and also contribute towards the childminder's assessments of children's progress. This helps the childminder to develop an accurate picture of children's learning and their achievements. Children are confident, articulate and expressive talkers. They use language as a powerful means to communicate, talking about their ideas, opinions and knowledge. Children talk with authority about how to care for the childminder's hamster. Children form exceptionally close attachments to the childminder and her family. This contributes towards children's high self-esteem and obvious delight in being in the childminder's company. The childminder trusts children to have a great deal of responsibility. The freedom that they have to carry out small tasks and help the childminder boosts their confidence. Children are resilient and display a 'can do' attitude towards their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use the outdoors with maximum effect to extend children's development, when they prefer to learn in this way. The childminder does not undertake precise self-evaluation to sharply focus upon the most pertinent issues to bring about an even more rapid improvement in quality.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
provide more opportunities for outdoor play to extend the enjoyment and enthusiasm of children who learn best in this way refine self-evaluation to better prioritise areas for development and more swiftly improve upon the good quality of care for children.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed a spontaneous learning activity with the childminder. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder undertakes regular training to help her to remain alert to child protection issues. Children practise evacuations of the home with the childminder so they know what to do in the event of an emergency. Several children attend other settings and the childminder works closely with them to exchange information and complement children's learning effectively. The childminder undertakes regular training and is keen to increase her level of qualification. She is well- informed and reviews her policies and procedures to embed new legislation. The childminder has effectively implemented recommendations from the previous inspection.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are highly motivated and eager to learn. They enthusiastically find things to play with and are able to extend upon their ideas, such as by adding water play into their activities. Children use a wide range of tools in their play. They are competent at using scissors, child-suitable knives and glue. Their good control and skills in using these help them to create and express themselves through their artwork. The childminder threads mathematical language and teaching into activities. Children name shapes and colours as they play. To further explain themselves, they talk about 'cold blue' as they describe different shades of colours. The childminder knows children well. Her astute observations, good quality teaching and well-planned activities effectively promote their next steps in learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are independent and able to meet their own needs well. They wipe their noses and throw the tissues in the bin. They go to the bathroom when they need to and wash their hands without prompting. Children learn to be healthy and active. They prepare the snacks and meals that they eat with the childminder and help themselves to water when they feel thirsty. Children are understanding and accepting of others. The childminder supports children to feel confident when moving on to nursery and when new children start in her care. By talking about their feelings, the childminder supports children to be welcoming of others and to understand their own emotions. Children are able to assess small risks and rise to the challenges the childminder provides for them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and develop into confident and capable learners. Their enthusiasm and thirst for learning is apparent in their willingness to undertake tasks and try new things. Children develop the vital skills they need for their future learning and eventual entry to school. They use problem-solving skills and talk about their ideas as they make sense of the world around them. Children are responsible and eager to share their good knowledge with others.
