This provision is good

 Children are confident and happy with the childminder. She helps them to have a strong sense of pride in their achievements and supports them to celebrate their success.  The childminder gives children good opportunities to understand and access technology. For example, children competently use the computer and have good skills.  Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder well works with parents to share information about children's learning. Children receive good continuity of care and education.  The childminder supports children's learning well. She completes regular and precise observations to ensure children make good progress in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not use every opportunity to extend children's understanding of their own safety, such as giving clear explanations.  The childminder does not always focus the best possible improvements on learning experiences for children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend explanations to children to help them learn and understand how to keep themselves safe  continue to focus practice improvements on the learning environment and experiences for children to provide them with the best possible outcomes.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching.  The inspector spoke to children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector viewed children's learning records and evidence of the childminder's suitability.  The inspector reviewed written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about children. She reviews the safety arrangements in her setting to ensure children remain safe in her care. The childminder reflects on her practice well and, for example, networks with other childminders to share ideas. She seeks the views of parents to help her develop the service she offers. The childminder monitors and tracks children's development and achievements well. She knows their individual levels of development and is aware of how to offer support or seek advice if needed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The qualified childminder knows how to promote children's learning effectively. She plans activities based on children's interests to help them engage and be excited to learn. The childminder supports children's speech development and understanding well. For example, appropriately for their age, she encourages them to 'babble' or talk through their play. Children receive good support to develop early literacy skills. For example, they easily access drawing and writing resources, and explore the marks they make. The childminder shares good information with other settings that older children attend. This helps her to provide continuity in children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder values children's input; for instance, she encourages them to share their opinions and views throughout the day. The childminder is warm and caring, and has good relationships with children. She supports them well to gain a good understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, children brush their teeth and enjoy a range of learning opportunities in the fresh air. Children behave well. They are learning good manners and respond well to the childminder's warm support. Children develop positive social skills and learn to respect other cultures; for example, the childminder takes children on outings to playgroups and in the community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make progress in their learning and development from their starting points. Young children are developing an understanding of how to manage their own care needs, appropriate to their age. They enjoy their play, are motivated and are eager to explore. Older children develop key skills in readiness for their future learning or school, such as having positive attitudes to learning. For example, they learn about numbers, shapes and size to develop their mathematical understanding.
