Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children. The inspector spoke with the childminder at convenient times. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies, the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults in the household. The inspector took into account written feedback given by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder has very high expectations of herself and the children and continuously reflects on her quality. She uses various training opportunities and develops her practice for each individual child. She provides activities that meet children's precise development needs and interests. The childminder establishes very highly effective relationships with parents. They are exceptionally well informed about, and engaged in, their children's learning. For example, the childminder shares strategies for extending children's learning at home. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of her role in protecting children and knows what to do if she has a concern. Meticulous risk assessments are in place and cover all aspects of care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder uses every moment of the day very effectively so that children are always learning. She achieves an exemplary successful balance between guiding learning and allowing children to work things out independently. She extends children's play, without taking over, and allows children to persevere, helping them to build resilience. The childminder makes very accurate and careful observations of all areas of children's development and makes sure that she provides activities to close swiftly any gaps in their learning; for example, singing nursery rhymes with actions and props to extend children's vocabulary. Children are able to freely explore, investigate and learn to manage risks effectively. The childminder recognises that there is opportunity to further extend children's understanding of natural materials, especially for those who learn best outdoors.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder creates a nurturing and very exciting environment that is visually calm and orderly. Children are exceptionally well engaged in their learning, access resources independently and enjoy uninterrupted time to play and explore. The childminder is an excellent role model, helping children to play exceptionally well together. She maintains very good hygiene and safety practices at all times. She makes sure that children know how to care for themselves. For example, she helps very young children to wash their hands after nappy change, to help them understand the link between managing personal needs and hygiene. The childminder supports children's sense of achievement exceedingly well. For example, children clap their hands and cheer when another child takes their first steps.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
All children progress at consistently high rates from their starting points and are extremely well prepared for the next stage of their learning. They gain exceptional skills in communication and language, learn how to respect one another and to be independent. Children are immensely confident and show excellent enthusiasm towards learning.
