This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how different aged children learn through their play. She effectively monitors individual children's progress to help ensure that the learning opportunities she provides link to their developmental and care needs. The childminder observes and assesses children's achievements and development well. She works with parents to gather information about their children's learning at home and uses this information to help her identify and plan for children's next steps in learning well. Children are very settled and comfortable in the childminder's care. She gathers information regarding children's personal needs effectively and uses this to help give each child the individual care and attention they need. Children feel well supported and are developing in confidence. The childminder works well in partnerships with other local professionals to help provide continuity to children in their learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not regularly gain parents' views on her service to help her to evaluate her practice more fully and identify where she can further drive improvements. The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to participate in creative activities to help practice skills, such as mark making, and build on their sensory, investigative and exploration skills even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children during their play. The inspector discussed aspects of the childminder's practice with her, including her self-evaluation processes. The inspector viewed documentation, including written policies and children's developmental records. The inspector observed children during snack and lunch times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is well qualified and has a good knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She works effectively with other professionals to keep up to date with any changes to guidance, and implements these well into her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to protect children's welfare and is clear on the procedures to follow if she has any concerns. The childminder generally evaluates her practice well. She gains children's views on the resources and activities that they like to help her develop what she provides for them during their play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder selects resources that interest and challenge individual children and plays alongside them to support their learning well. She extends children's play opportunities and encourages them to develop their own ideas. For example, when children started to throw balls she turned this into a simple game. The childminder supports the development of children's speech and communication skills effectively. For example, she continually talks to the children to explain what she is doing, and she listens well and introduces simple words into their play to extend their language skills. Children enjoy daily outings, such as visits to the local pre-school, toddler group and parks. This helps children to learn about the local community and helps them to build on their physical and social development effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses her good knowledge of the children to recognise situations where they may need extra support, such as encouragement and cuddles. She consistently reminds children of their behaviour, using simple and age-appropriate terms. For example, she offers lots of praise for positive behaviour, such as sharing and turn taking. Children behave well. The childminder helps to raise children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides heathy food, involves children in choosing what they want to eat and helps them to make their own meals. The childminder maintains a safe environment and involves children to help them learn to keep themselves safe. For example, pictures of the evacuation process help younger children recognise what to do.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children regularly practise the skills they need to prepare them for their future learning. They are learning to be independent and develop their social and self-care skills. For example, children enjoy helping the childminder to respect the environment as they tidy toys away. Children show curiosity and enthusiasm as they explore and practise new things. Children make consistently good progress from their individual starting points.
