Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector was given a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household, children's assessment records and a sample of policies.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector discussed the self-evaluation process, spoke to a small sample of parents and looked at written parental feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The well-qualified childminder is passionate and dedicated to her role. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows exactly what she must do if she is concerned about the welfare of any child in her care. All documents, policies and procedures are well maintained and implemented to a high standard. This ensures children are exceptionally well cared for and kept safe from harm. The childminder continually strives for excellence. She has clear plans in place to continually develop the already first-class provision and ensure that children's progress and the quality of teaching remains at an outstanding level.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder plans activities which inspire and excite children to become independent, motivated learners. The childminder extends children's learning exceptionally well. She spontaneously builds upon discussions and their chosen play. For example, during creative play children use mirrors to look at themselves and discuss the colours they need to paint their own picture. Children are supported exceptionally well with their communication and language skills, including children who speak English as an additional language. The childminder constantly talks with children about what they are doing and how they are playing. She asks questions, offers suggestions and provides new words for children. Resources, such as musical instruments, help to keep children highly engaged and interested for long periods of time. Children have great fun banging drums and shaking maracas to make music. All children get fully involved as the childminder is very skilful in

adapting activities to include everyone.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children's physical and emotional needs are exceptionally well met. The childminder intuitively understands children's needs and feelings. Children enjoy the enthusiasm of the childminder and giggle with delight as she joins in their play. The childminder sets children small tasks and consistently praises them when they achieve their goals. This builds up children's self-esteem and confidence as their achievements are celebrated. Children enjoy accessing resources and helping to put them away. They show care for younger children as they play. Opportunities for independence are entwined throughout the provision.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children gain excellent confidence and self-esteem and are extremely curious and motivated to learn and explore. They are highly sociable and work exceptionally well together to solve problems. They thoroughly enjoy using resources to re-enact familiar events in their role play. The exceptional range of learning opportunities prepares them very well for the next stage in their learning and for their move to school. The teaching during adult-led activities is excellent. Consequently, all children make rapid progress. Parents are highly involved in systems for assessment and superior partnerships are in place with other early years practitioners. This facilitates the sharing of information as children prepare to move to school.
