The childminder regularly talks to the children about this. Children select enjoyable and exciting resources that develop their understanding of this aspect of learning.  Children share a close relationship with the childminder. They are happy, settled and thrive in her care. This helps them to make good progress in their learning.  The childminder regularly reflects on her practice, taking account of parents' and children's views. She targets aspects for improvement effectively.  Children explore their environment with enthusiasm. They are confident to take appropriate risks according to their age and ability.  Children understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, they are able to

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children are not always able to reach resources independently when completing activities at the table.  Sometimes, children's movement within the play space is restricted by the organisation of resources over the floor area.

p.1

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector engaged with the children during the inspection.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector observed the children during their play activities, as well as their snack and lunch time routines.  The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, risk assessments and relevant policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder effectively manages her provision. She attends relevant training courses regularly and uses all knowledge gained for the benefit of the children. For example, she uses the information to create new and exciting learning experiences for the children and to improve her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder highly values the importance of keeping children safe. She clearly understands the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child's well-being. The childminder has an assistant who helps her very occasionally. She supervises their work closely and they have completed first-aid and safeguarding training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

There is a wide variety of interesting and stimulating resources and activities for children to choose from that are used to promote learning and development. The childminder enables children to learn effectively by actively engaging with them in their play activities. Children demonstrate good speaking and listening skills; they are able to communicate their feelings and needs clearly. The childminder uses effective strategies to support children's move to school or other early years settings. For example, children learn to recognise their names and letter sounds, and are exposed to mathematical language throughout the day. The childminder accurately monitors and assesses children's learning and development. She plans carefully for children's individual needs and abilities. As a result, all children make good progress, with some significantly exceeding this.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is an excellent role model for the children. Children are kind, learn to share and use good manners. The children interact well with one another and learn to tidy up after themselves. For example, children sing the tidy-up song when helping to pack away their toys. Children learn to be independent. The childminder actively promotes children's awareness of healthy lifestyles; the children follow a good hygiene routine and learn about the importance of eating healthy food. The childminder values children's safety highly; she ensures that the environment is safe and suitable. For example, she regularly assesses risks in all areas of provision. Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make progress that is typical for their age, or better, from their individual starting points. They are well prepared for the next steps in their learning and their move to school or other early years settings.
