for children. The childminder evaluates her practice successfully to drive continuous improvement.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the premises, toys and equipment. The inspector sampled documentation and children's records. The inspector engaged in discussion with the childminder and children. The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed safeguarding training and has a clear awareness of reporting procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She has high expectations of children and uses skilful and effective teaching techniques to support their learning well, overall. For example, she uses her good knowledge of children's interest in travel to increase their understanding of different countries. The childminder effectively identifies new goals in children's learning and promotes their outcomes well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well, which helps her to use the good range of toys and resources effectively to engage children in enjoyable and purposeful learning experiences. She accurately tracks children's progress to identify and close any gaps in their learning. For example, children practise new skills as they carefully construct and build using small connecting blocks to make pretend aeroplanes. The childminder helps them to extend their learning further, for example, by counting, sorting and matching the blocks by size, use and colour. Children eagerly explore and the childminder provides good guidance and support. For example, she encourages children to solve problems, such as how to connect the construction blocks to make pretend aeroplane wings. During these activities, the childminder promotes children's communication skills successfully.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gathers good information from parents about children and has effective settling-in procedures. This contributes to meeting children's individual needs well. Children follow the childminder's positive example and display good behaviour and interpersonal skills. They show increasing independence with their personal care needs, and follow good health and hygiene practices. The childminder consistently encourages children to think about their own safety. For example, she helps them to identify potential hazards in the environment, such as steps. This helps children to develop a good understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy, settled and become independent learners. They gain confidence in the world around them, for example, through visits to local places of interest. Children are confident and develop good levels of independence. They make choices and develop well socially. Children are prepared well for their next steps in learning and starting school.
