p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, staff do not make the most of opportunities to develop children's independence.  Children's knowledge and understanding of technology is not as well developed as other aspects of their learning.

p.1

p.2

The manager regularly reflects on the service provided. She takes into account the views of staff, children and parents. Self-evaluation accurately identifies areas for improvement and helps target teaching and care. Safeguarding is effective. All staff have a clear understanding of the importance of keeping children safe. They know the procedure to follow should they have any concerns about a child's well-being. Staff are well supported through mentoring and regular meetings. The manager and staff effectively monitor children's development, working in close partnerships with parents and other professionals to ensure continuity of learning and care. Parents speak highly of the staff, the activities on offer and how well their children are settled.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

There is a wide variety of activities and resources to promote children's learning. Children actively explore the environment, make their own play choices and happily engage in all activities. In the outdoor area, staff follow the children's lead and expertly question and support them to extend their learning and development. For example, during imaginative play, staff encourage children to solve problems and work together to overcome a challenge. Staff plan effectively for children's individual needs and abilities. They make accurate assessments using high-quality observations. Staff actively engage parents in this process, for example, through sharing development reports and parent meetings. Parents are well informed about their children's progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children share a close relationship with the staff. They are all happy, settled and enjoy their time at the kindergarten. Children follow good hygiene routines and manage their personal needs effectively. For example, they put on their own waterproof clothing and boots to go outside. Staff regularly risk assess all areas of the premises to promote children's safety. Children learn how to keep themselves safe and are confident to take risks relevant to their age and ability. Children are very kind, good mannered and well behaved. They share and take turns with others and offer help to their friends when they need support. Children learn about healthy lifestyles and engage in regular outdoor play.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and gain the skills needed for their next steps in learning. They are happy and enjoy the close bonds they form with staff. Children are creative learners and develop critical-thinking skills. For example, they find new ways to solve problems using everyday objects available to them.
