Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Requires improvement Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has not fully completed the progress check for all children aged between two and three years in a consistent and timely manner. The childminder could not provide evidence confirming that she has a current paediatric first-aid qualification. The childminder does not use all information obtained from parents, about their children's development at home, to inform her assessment of their progress and future planning. The childminder's monitoring of children's progress is not robust enough to ensure tracking is secure and that all seven areas of learning are given equal coverage. Information from self-evaluation is not used effectively to set clear targets for continued improvement and to set higher standards for teaching and practice.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder is very caring and kind, and children have formed secure attachments with her. This means children are settled and happy when with her. The childminder introduces numbers, colours and shapes as children play. This helps support children in making typical progress for their age and stage of development. The childminder provides a varied range of activities that children engage in and enjoy, including opportunities for outdoor play on a daily basis.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

ensure the progress check for children aged between two and three years of age is completed in a consistent and timely manner, and carried out before their third birthday. 25/03/2016

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
enhance the system for monitoring children's progress consistently across all seven areas of learning make better use of the information gained from parents to develop children's assessments and future plans for their development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the lounge and kitchen. The inspector sampled children's assessment records, planning documentation and a range of other records, policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability, training certificates and self-evaluation and improvement plans. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector and childminder undertook a joint observation and discussed learning while children were engaged in activities.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has not been consistent in completing the progress check for all children aged between two and three years. This is because she has failed to complete them in a timely manner, and for some children this has not occurred until after their third birthday. Although this is a legal requirement, the impact is minimal. The childminder explained she has a current paediatric first-aid qualification, however she could not provide evidence of this as the certificate has been misplaced. The childminder has booked onto a paediatric first-aid course to be held in the next month and therefore, the impact on children is less significant. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands what action she must take to report any safeguarding concerns. She has appropriate policies in place and these are implemented successfully. The childminder has addressed the action set at the last inspection and a more challenging learning environment is now

provided for children. She has made improvements in monitoring children's progress and the delivery of the education programme. However, this is not yet secure in ensuring all seven areas of learning are robustly covered. The childminder has a system for the evaluation of her setting and knows the areas for improvement. However, she has not yet used this information to set secure enough targets which focus on addressing those areas for improvement, and raise practice and teaching to a higher level.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder seeks information from parents about their child. However, she does not use this information effectively to inform her assessment and planning for children's future learning, in order to complement the learning taking place. The childminder engages with children in their play, supporting their learning as she introduces mathematical concepts and encourages children's language and communication skills. Children are engaged and delight in the pasta and feather activity. They laugh together and talk about what is taking place. The childminder takes children to toddler groups where they have opportunities to mix and to help them understand taking turns and sharing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder enhances children's confidence and esteem as she praises them at all times. She supports their emotional well-being and behaviour very well. The childminder works closely with parents on children's individual care needs. Information about children's personal and individual dietary needs are fully recorded and organised well. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, enjoy the outdoors and support a healthy lifestyle. She regularly takes children to the park, allowing for active play, in which they learn to manage risks when playing in different surroundings.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children make typical progress for their age and stage of development .They are acquiring the key skills necessary for their future learning and move on to school. Children are active learners and enjoy their time at the childminder's home.
