This provision is good

 The managers and staff have worked consistently since their last inspection to make significant improvements to their practice. Their thoughtful self-evaluation includes the views of parents and their close work with local advisers has outlined precise action plans to improve and develop the provision effectively.  Key persons closely observe and accurately assess children's individual progress and next steps. All children are well supported to reach their potential and are making good progress in their learning and development.  Children are well cared for by the attentive staff. They are content, display a sense of belonging and have positive relationships with staff and their peers. This fosters their well-being and their confidence grows.  Staff liaise effectively with parents, external professionals and other providers of settings that children attend. This ensures that they work well together, so that all

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children in the two to three years age group do not have independent access to a wide variety of resources to inspire their creativity and support their self-initiated play.  Staff do not always seek more precise details from parents about what children are learning at home to inform future planning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend the variety of activities and resources available at any one time to offer greater opportunities for children to develop their creativity during times of free play  seek more detailed information from parents about their children's achievements from home to further support an accurate assessment of what they can do and plan more precisely for their future learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in all of the age groups, the outside learning environments and conducted a joint observation with the deputy manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the business manager and the deputy manager of the provision. She spoke to staff and children throughout the inspection when appropriate.  The inspector looked at children's assessment and planning documentation, the setting's risk assessment and safety records.  The inspector checked evidence of suitability and qualifications of staff working within the setting, the provider's evidence of self-evaluation and a range of other documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection and by reading a number of comments on questionnaires and letters given to the managers.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The managers work well together and have a good awareness of the legal requirements. They ensure that they keep abreast of changes to legislation and cascade this to the staff team. Safeguarding is effective. Staff are vigilant in their supervision of the children and they carry out thorough risk assessments. Staff trained in paediatric first aid are suitably deployed throughout the nursery to ensure they are able to promptly support any child needing medical assistance. Managers regularly conduct review meetings with staff and clear procedures are in place for the ongoing monitoring of teaching practice. Individual learning needs of staff are subsequently outlined and close support is offered by more senior members of the team. Additionally, all staff are supported to attend regular training and ongoing professional development to enhance their knowledge and develop their skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Babies delight in exploring a vast range of inspiring natural materials and interesting everyday sensory objects. Staff are close at hand to develop their curiosity and extend their learning. Older babies relish exploring space and size and develop their coordination skills as they empty and fill various baskets. Through the support and encouragement from staff, they confidently tackle challenges. They take time to move and fit items in the basket, so that the lid can close and they develop their early problem-solving skills. Pre- school children enjoy expressing themselves through art and craft activities. They concentrate intently as they create interesting junk models based on their own interests. Staff ask probing questions and use discussions to extend children's language and encourage their planning, deeper thinking and further exploration. Children's manipulative skills develop as they make marks with paint, in flour and glitter. Older children recognise

letters that form their names on labels that are readily available.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are kind and patient and they provide responsive additional support when children are struggling to understand expectations. They use positive praise to acknowledge their achievements, so that children understand what they are doing well. Children learn to respect staff and their peers and their social skills are progressing well. This includes children that require particularly perceptive intervention and additional support. Children's individual needs and routines are carefully followed to support their well-being. Young children show a good understanding of routine care practices. They confidently find a clean nappy when it is time for them to be changed. Mealtimes promote children's independence. Two-year-olds and pre-school children enjoy preparing their snacks and serving their lunch. Babies learn to feed themselves and older children develop their coordination skills with their knives and forks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress in their learning and development and in readiness for school. This includes children who speak English as an additional language, disabled children and those with special educational needs.
