children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people continue to have a positive and highly nurturing experience during their short break. They are involved in numerous activities such as; go karting, trampoline centres, parties, cinema trips, pamper sessions, baking and board games. Moreover, family members receive parenting skills and relationship support, which helps to prevent family breakdown.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people’s safety is achieved during their stay here. There are no incidents of them missing or getting involved in crime. Furthermore, their behaviour is very well managed and there are no physical interventions. This demonstrates the respectful relationships built up between the staff and young people. Monitoring systems are very effective the majority of the time, although, a serious event was not notified to Ofsted to ensure information sharing is complete. This has not negatively impacted upon the welfare of young people to-date. Excellent feedback reports also confirm the high standards of care provided. A development plan sets the direction for the home and includes reducing paper work and developing more group work. The previous recommendation is met, as recording of information is much more accurate and detailed. Young people new to having a short break here are well informed and introduced.

Thorough planning, risk assessments and visits to the home are all part of the process enabling a safe and enjoyable stay. Moreover, their stays are carefully planned by the staff team to promote peer friendships and relationships. Young people’s views shape the running of the home and are regularly sought. For example, new games consoles have been purchased. Also, booklets and guides are in place to explain the purpose and routines of the home. These booklets are currently being re-designed with the help of young people. The stable staff team are qualified and experienced in working with young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. They receive regular training and supervision to keep them up-to-date with emerging care practice. They enjoy their work and this provides for a happy and welcoming home environment for all.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
