children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people’s progress, experience and outcomes remain stable since the last inspection. They are supported by a committed staff team who provide high quality care. Young people are very settled and have good and respectful relationships with staff. Complex behaviours continue to be very well managed and there are no incidents of them going missing since March 2015. School attendance and achievement for the majority of young people is excellent. A recent reduction in attendance for a young person is being robustly addressed to ensure this improves.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people live in a healthy environment where their physical, emotional and social wellbeing is promoted. They engage in a range of activities and hobbies such as; gymnasium, trampoline, boxing, cinema, board games and film nights, which they choose and enjoy. They have access to health care services to meet their individual needs. For example, the staff have been successful in encouraging a young person to attend the dentist despite a phobia. This demonstrates the trusting relationships forged at this home.

Young people’s placements remain stable and they are settled living here. Their views are gained and influence the home’s direction. For example, they now have a pet dog that they have formed positive emotional bonds with. Furthermore, the staff act on young people’s ideas and suggestions such as; new activities and all young people have new double beds.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff continue to support young people to stay in touch with their families. Notably, contact arrangements have increased as a result of the staff working in partnerships with their families and the placing authority. Young people are currently awaiting a further increase in over nigh stays, which is to be assessed by the placing authority. Staff fully support young people in ensuring important attachments are nurtured.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Quality assurance systems are in place and provide an overview of care practice. A development plan is in place and identifies goals such as, further refurbishment of the home in March 2016 and developing trend analysis systems with the electronic information system. The one requirement and two recommendations are fully addressed. Namely, recruitment panels now consist of more than one person, consultation meetings focus on young people’s views more, and bedroom furniture has been replaced.

What the inspection judgements mean

At the interim inspection we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the Inspection of children's homes: framework for inspection.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
