This provision is good
The childminder has identified her strengths and she is aware of areas she can improve. The childminder successfully engages parents in the self-evaluation process. She asks parents to complete questionnaires and express their views about her service. The childminder has a good understanding of the children's individual levels of development. She accurately assesses what children know and can do and plans for their future learning. Children make good progress across the seven areas of learning. The childminder provides the children with fun activities. She regularly includes music and musical instruments in the children's learning, which they thoroughly enjoy. The childminder shares warm relationships with the children in her care. Children voluntarily show her affection as they play and are comforted by her cuddles when they are tired. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder effectively builds relationships with

them during children's settling-in periods. Parents are made aware of their children's achievements as they occur. The childminder helps parents to support their children's learning at home.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully consider different ways to help children explore and understand growing and living things. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to extend older children's interest in early writing skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities in the childminder's home, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the childminder's home. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the procedures she must follow in the event of a concern about a child in her care. All adults living on the premises have completed appropriate suitability checks. The childminder keeps informed of changes in childcare through reading recent publications and attending training courses. Partnerships with parents are successful. The childminder shares her knowledge of children's achievements with other providers and continuity of learning and care is addressed well. Parents are happy with the service they receive. They comment that they especially appreciate the good variety of activities and trips the childminder provides. They also comment that their children enjoy spending time in the childminder's home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children's individual interests and personalities very well. She plans activities that she knows they will enjoy and which will extend their current stage of development. The childminder supports them to learn new vocabulary. She introduces them to words, such as stove, and explains that they may be more familiar with the word cooker. The childminder engages in role play with the children. One example of this is when she pretends to ride on a train to a tea party. The childminder goes on to encourage children to think what form of transport they wish to use to travel on. Children participate in singing songs about the weather and celebrating birthdays. Children begin to learn about our similarities and differences. They are involved in conversations about people with disabilities and elderly people. They begin to learn why some people may need aids to help them to walk.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are learning the difference between right and wrong. The childminder reminds the children about being kind to one another and verbally praises them for sharing with one another. The childminder supports children's health and well-being. She provides the children with healthy snacks, such as a choice of carrot sticks and cucumber and apple slices. The childminder also regularly encourages the children to drink water as they play and during snack breaks. Children are learning how to keep themselves safe. The childminder explains to them why it is not safe to sit on a folding chair that is more suitable for adults. The childminder checks her garden and play areas they visit to ensure the areas are safe for the children to play in.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are learning good skills to support them as they move on to pre-school and school. They make consistent progress in all areas of their development. Children have opportunities to build relationships with other adults and children of a similar age at organised events in the local community.
