children make excellent progress.  The childminder works very closely with staff at other settings children attend to provide continuity of learning and care.  The childminder accurately assesses the effectiveness of activities she plans for the children. She knows what children have learned and skilfully identifies the next steps in their learning, targeting teaching exceptionally well to meet their individual needs.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder constantly reflects on the outstanding service she provides and expertly targets improvements and changes to benefit the children. She attends many relevant courses and meets with other childcare professionals on a regular basis to improve her knowledge and to implement new and exciting learning activities. For example, enhancements to the outdoor learning experiences have been extremely successful in encouraging children to explore as they have great fun. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the importance of keeping children safe and knows the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder expertly supports children's play and extends their learning and development. For example, children are fascinated by a Spanish song the childminder sings. She very skilfully builds on their interest by talking about her own experiences of Spanish culture. The introduction of fans brings to life her descriptions of Spanish dancing. The childminder tracks and monitors children's progress precisely. She works in excellent partnership with parents and regularly seeks their views and opinions. For example, parents contribute to records of their children's progress. The childminder has an excellent all-round view of the progress children make at home and at her setting.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children thrive in the childminder's care. The childminder is an excellent role model, successfully promoting good manners, sharing and kindness. Children are exceptionally well behaved and highly considerate of others. The childminder helps children to consider social issues, such as ecology, and different ways of life. For example, children recycle rubbish and learn to care for chickens and gather eggs. The environment is welcoming and secure. The childminder teaches children how to keep themselves safe and they are confident to begin to take carefully managed risks. Children benefit from extremely good opportunities for fresh air and exercise during outdoor play. They enjoy nutritious meals, sensitively planned to reflect their individual dietary needs. However, they do not consistently have the opportunity to make choices in relation to the food provided.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely friendly and are highly confident in communicating their wants and needs. Children follow meticulous hygiene routines and manage their personal hygiene needs independently. Children are wonderfully creative. For example, they are thoroughly engaged and expressive as they learn new songs and explore sounds using home-made shakers. All children are exceptionally well prepared for their future learning, including their move to school.
