This provision is good
The childminder interacts well with children and is skilled at capturing their imagination and keeping them engaged. She builds on what children know and can do to assist them in their future learning. Children are given time to acquire and practise the key skills they need at school. Children's safety and welfare are well promoted. The childminder provides a relaxed and homely environment where children feel safe and secure. The childminder acknowledges children's efforts and achievements with lots of praise and encouragement. This promotes their emotional well-being and confidence. Children behave well. They willingly follow the rules and boundaries that are in place. Children have strong bonds with the childminder and are happy and settled. The childminder has established positive relationships with parents. This helps to ensure that children benefit from complementary care as the childminder gets to know
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to extend their understanding and awareness of similarities and differences between people and communities. Children are not always able to follow up their own ideas and be as independent as possible when leading their own play and learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at areas of the premises that are used for childminding. She observed children engaged in a variety of learning and play experiences. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including the childminder's policies and procedures and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. She also checked evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information detailed in questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in keeping children safe from harm. She is aware of the procedures to follow in the event of a concern. The childminder attends training to keep her knowledge up to date, including child protection and first aid. The childminder reflects on her practice and seeks the views of parents to help her to identify areas for improvement. There are well- established links with the schools that children attend. Information is effectively shared to ensure continuity in children's care and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations of children to identify their current interests. She takes account of their views and plans a good variety of challenging activities so children learn through play. The childminder liaises with the schools that the children attend to ensure they receive experiences that help them build on what they already know. Children enjoy using their imagination during role play and like to include the childminder in their play. They pretend to make her dinner and have fun learning about healthy eating as they discuss the different vegetables to use in their soup. Children join in a variety of craft activities and concentrate well as they make animal masks. The childminder provides good guidance and encourages children to recognise and match colour, shapes and letters. Children respond with confidence, asking many questions and clearly learning from the experience. The childminder keeps parents informed of their child's daily activities and

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a safe and secure environment. She carries out risk assessments of her home and garden and takes necessary action to minimise any hazards to children. She promotes a healthy lifestyle for children through good hygiene routines and the provision of healthy meals and snacks. Children benefit from opportunities to learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, the childminder clearly explains how to hold scissors safely and practises the fire drill with the children so that they know the procedure for evacuation. The childminder works closely with parents to make sure that settling-in procedures are flexible and meet children's individual needs. She asks parents about their children's home routines and works with them to provide consistent care. The childminder is a positive role model who listens with genuine interest to what children have to say. This helps children to feel valued. Children use a wide range of resources to
