p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The children are not fully involved in problem-solving and finding their own solutions. This has a minor impact on their ability to develop their thinking skills. The childminder's reflection on her practice is not precise enough to fully drive improvement to the next level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

give children more opportunities to solve problems and use their thinking skills reflect more deeply when monitoring practice to drive improvement to the next level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children at play in the childminder's playroom. The inspector examined a range of documents, including suitability checks and children's records. The inspector spoke to parents and read their references to gather their views. The inspector and childminder evaluated the morning's activities.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes safeguarding training regularly and knows what action to take should she have concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder reflects on the quality of her provision as part of her self-evaluation process and identifies targets for action. For example, she adapted the learning environment to offer appropriate challenge to the particular ages of children who attend. The childminder attends training as part of her professional development. She puts new ideas successfully into action, such as working with the children to consider their respect and regard for each other. The childminder carefully monitors children's progress to check that they are making progress in all areas of their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is careful to get to know each child individually as they start with her, and works closely with parents to achieve this. The childminder reviews children's abilities so that she can plan activities which will interest them and help them progress. She makes regular observations of children's achievements and identifies their next steps in learning. She shares this information with parents. This builds a strong and effective partnership. The childminder is very skilled at meeting the diverse needs of different age groups as they play together. She maintains conversations and games with all children and is very attentive to their ideas and suggestions. Children enjoy directing their own play and setting themselves new challenges, such as creating new rules for a game.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has created a good learning environment with a wide range of toys and play equipment stored within easy reach of children. Children are confident to explore and make choices and enjoy being independent. The childminder promotes children's good physical care and well-being. She follows the individual routines of babies and toddlers, paying close attention to information from parents about their diet and sleep. The childminder provides a wide range of healthy meals and snacks, with regular opportunities for exercise and outdoor play. Children have mature behaviour skills and understand the need for rules in cooperative play or for safety reasons. The childminder is a good role model.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They achieve well within the typical range of development for their age across all educational programmes. Children are well-motivated to learn and explore new ideas. They learn to have empathy for others and are skilled at taking turns and sharing. Overall, children acquire good skills for their future learning.
