p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not always have enough opportunities to use all play areas and resources to fully extend their play experiences and all-round development.  The childminder does not make the most of the opportunities to involve parents and encourage them to share how they support their children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear on her role to keep children safe and secure, and is confident to follow the required procedures if she has any concerns. The childminder has a positive attitude to improving her provision. She constantly reflects on her practice to help her identify areas for development. For example, she recognises she needs to develop the outdoor play environment to incorporate all the areas of learning. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively. She uses the information to help her plan activities that will support children to move on in their learning. Parents receive clear information about their children's day and individual achievements. They comment positively about the childminder and how their children's 'social skills have flourished'.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The qualified childminder has a good understanding of how children learn, motivating them to play and explore. Children take part in a good variety of creative play activities, both at the childminder's home and at local activity groups. For instance, children are fascinated to feel the texture of the coloured rice. They showed good control as they used various resources to scoop the rice into containers. The childminder interacted with the children positively, introducing counting and numbers to help support their learning further.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have a warm, positive relationship with the childminder and enjoy their time at her setting. The childminder links with parents to gain information about the children's individual needs. She is attentive to children's care needs, which helps foster a strong sense of security and emotional well-being. Children are confident to move around and explore their surroundings reassured that the childminder is nearby. Children are gaining an understanding of risk through a varied range of activities and outings. The childminder liaises closely with parents about young children's feeding requirements. She works with the parents to help children develop healthy eating habits.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points and are happy and settled. They play together well, and the childminder's sensitive support helps them to understand the needs of others and develop their social skills. She makes the most of emerging ideas as children's play develops. For example, children enjoyed exploring the different sounds of the musical instruments. The childminder followed the children's interest and encouraged them to create 'loud' and 'soft' sounds. Children had fun joining in with the actions to familiar songs and rhymes. They learn essential skills to prepare them for the future and their move on to school.
