This provision is good
The childminder evaluates her practice and plans for future development. She seeks the views of parents and children. She takes their suggestions for improvement into account when making changes. The childminder completes accurate assessments of children's progress. Parents contribute to these. This helps to identify children's next steps and promotes consistency in their learning. The childminder shares information with other providers when children move to other settings. The childminder uses every opportunity to promote children's early understanding of mathematics. She helps them to say numbers in sequence, recognise familiar numbers and make comparisons between size and weight. Children learn to play cooperatively and consider the needs of others. They attend outings where they meet children in larger social groups. They develop their confidence and build secure friendships. This helps to prepare them for the diverse environment of

school. The childminder's setting is welcoming and well organised. Children are keen to talk about the displays of their work and share photographs of themselves involved in play with their friends.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to help children make connections between their play and their own first-hand experiences. The childminder provides learning experiences that support children's developing understanding of their community and people in the wider world. However, she does not consistently promote children's understanding of what makes them unique as individuals.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents from the childminder's review of her practice. The inspector looked at children's records, discussed planning and looked at a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of current child protection issues. She conducts independent research and attends regular meetings with other professionals to make sure she fully understands current legislation and guidance. She shares policies and procedures with parents to help protect children from harm. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment towards her professional development. She has a relevant qualification and improves her skills through additional training. For example, she has extended her understanding of how to better support children who are not yet making good progress in communication and language. This has had a positive impact on children's progress. The childminder has reviewed the way she records and shares information about children's learning. This helps to keep parents well informed about their children's achievements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans a broad range of experiences that supports children's development in all areas. Resources reflect children's interests and they make independent choices about their play. The childminder makes good use of the local area to extend children's experiences, such as, visiting the library, woods and park. Children enjoy activities that help them to learn about the world around them. For example, they use magnifying glasses to explore insects. They learn about larger animals when they visit the local farm. Children use resources that support their early understanding of technology. Effective monitoring of children's progress helps the childminder to identify and address any gaps in learning for individual children. She involves parents in identifying children's starting points and supports them to continue their children's learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a good understanding of the additional support some children need during times of change. For example, she helps children prepare for a new baby in their family. She promotes good behaviour. She uses praise and encouragement to build children's self-esteem. She models taking turns and sharing. The childminder supports children's independence well and encourages them to manage age-appropriate tasks. She promotes children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, they learn the rules for staying safe near water or when using climbing equipment. She helps older children to understand the dangers of using social media.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
