This provision is good
Children enjoy their time in a well resourced and stimulating learning environment. They make good progress in their learning. Activities cover the seven areas of learning and are tailored to the children's individual stages of development. The childminder is a positive role model, supporting children to be polite and friendly. She has age-appropriate expectations of children and their independence is developing well. Language development is a priority for the childminder. She works well to ensure all children are supported to develop skills in language and communication. Children's early mathematical understanding is promoted well. The childminder is skilled at weaving opportunities to talk about shapes and sizes into everyday activities, while opportunities to count are plentiful. The childminder spends time considering what she does well, as well as identifying areas she would like to develop. This has enabled her to develop her provision since
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes leads play rather than allowing children to fully explore their own ideas and come up with their own solutions to difficulties they encounter. There are fewer opportunities for children to explore their home languages and cultures.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children more opportunities to fully lead their own play, coming up with possible solutions and experiments to solve simple difficulties they may encounter in their play. extend the opportunities for children to increase their awareness of their home cultures and languages.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed children at play and evaluated activities with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's observations and assessment records, evidence of suitability of household members and a range of other documentation, including the safeguarding procedures and risk assessments. The inspector looked at the childminder's self-evaluation document and talked with her about how she evaluates and improves her service. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the action to take should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. She attends relevant safeguarding and paediatric first-aid training to update her knowledge. The childminder undertakes regular risk assessments to identify and minimise hazards to children, both on and off the premises. She is qualified and experienced, and demonstrates a drive to develop her provision. The childminder makes use of online resources, professional development and information from her local authority to keep up to date with good practice. Parents speak highly of the childminder, valuing the safe, caring and stimulating environment she provides. Links with other professionals and childcare settings children attend are used well to support children's ongoing learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are cared for in a dedicated play space and the childminder makes good use of this to provide a well resourced and interesting environment. Children are motivated learners and spend long periods of time engaged in activities. Language development is supported well. The childminder naturally joins in with children's play, talking with them, supporting their pronunciation and adding new words. Opportunities for early writing are provided. The childminder makes good use of activities away from the home to support children's understanding of the world and the natural environment. The childminder supports children's development effectively. A regular cycle of observation, assessment and planning is used to support children's next stage of learning. Parents are actively involved in their children's learning, supported by the sharing of learning records and daily feedback from the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have strong relationships with the childminder. They thrive in her care, enjoying her cuddles and praise. The childminder is a good role model and time is spent finding out how children feel when they first arrive in the morning. The childminder gathers detailed information from parents, enabling her to meet children's emotional needs. Children are well supported for the move to pre-school or school and their age-appropriate independence is developing well. They are encouraged to help to hang up their coats and take off their shoes. Children have good opportunities to be physically active and to learn to manage age-appropriate risks. The childminder encourages them to follow good hygiene routines and supports them to make healthy food choices. Children's developing social skills and self-confidence are supported well. The childminder makes effective use of opportunities in the wider community to support children to become more confident
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress and they are learning the skills needed in readiness for the next stage of their learning, including school.
